Hekkie's Fight Cancelled

Talk about a body blow at the last minute for Hekkie Budler who just wants to fight so he can get his career back on track. The problem he has faced over the last year and a bit with lock downs has not made it easy. He needs to be fighting boxers who will help him improve his rankings and not be going the other way.

The latest boxing contest has turned into an utter shambles with the first opponent not allowed to leave Tanzania due to testing positive for Covid. Fair enough and a replacement was found and flown in only to arrive 4 kg's overweight. Why even fly if you know you are too fat and won't make the weigh in? He was given an hour and lost 350 grams weighing in 3.650 kg's over the limit.

Hekkie is highly regarded by all the rankings with the WBC having him second and the WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine have him at number 3 for the flyweight title. The guy is that good and firmly believe he will land a title within the next 12 months.

When I saw Hekkie two weeks ago trying on his different gloves choosing which ones he would fight with he looked in great shape. I feel sorry for him as I know how frustrating this has all been and no doubt will make him more focused. I have never heard of boxers being that far off the weigh in and is a disgrace.

After what happened now I am hoping that the boxing boards step in and find a fight for him as he is legitimately one or two fights away from a world title. Living in Africa is probably not helping matters and possibly moving overseas to the States would be the better option. As a career move I know what I would have done as that makes more sense.

Lets see what happens next as his promoters won't just hang about now. This is when it pays to be signed up to a big stable as they have more clout and get things done.
