OCD Sportstalk Incubation Curation Update

It is Saturday evening here meaning it is time to have a look at our weekly stats and see if we are tracking in the right direction. Last week we were on 1212 members of sportstalk and today we are 34 members stronger on 1246 which is better than awesome. The number is roughly 80 % up from when OCD started this project with sports.

This week a total of 26 posts were put through for curation and hoping to find two more to at least achieve an average of 4 per day. Considering what these posts earn I am surprised why there aren't more posts worthy of curation. One just has to look at @sportstalksocial in peakd and look at trending to see the post values worth anywhere between $20 and $30 per post some have gone above $100 in the past.

I don't really understand why we are still seeing posts that are just too short for curation and are blowing themselves out of the water. One has to be honest and when looking at a two minute read is it worth $30 and the answer is no. To be in contention all it takes is a little effort and be yourself in how you write. Tagging @ocd makes no difference as I read and look at all the posts anyway.

Please as a community we need more authors and wouldn't it be great if we can at least achieve 5 posts per day for curation. 35 posts per week out of an active community over over 200 is very achievable and truly believe everyone should be trying to get curated. Why post something that is not your best as it is costing you in the long run.

Looking through the sports feed over the last week the obvious abusers have left the building and could be that the sports price is down or have given up being obliterated. I would hope it is the latter and will keep an eye out like many of you are already doing.

Sourcing of images has always been a hard one to control and Getty has resurfaced this week so please just stay way from using those. Wherever you can use your own or images that are not breaching rules. I know it is hard but at least provide the source as a basic rule which many new users are not aware of. If you are unsure in anyway just ask and there are many in the community that will help.

#sportingmemories was used once in the last week and is still the extra topic you can rely on if you are struggling for posts. This is handy for many that don't know what to write on and sharing something from the past is always welcome.

Looking forward to next week to see how close we can get to 1300 as a community and if 35 posts can be submitted for extra curation.

With MLB Opening coming up soon, I’ll make a post about it tomorrow Sunday USA morning time. It will focus more on my favorite team, but I love the game overall. I’m upgraded at CANVA and considering unsplash.com in some cases. I’ll also see if I get some quality iPhone shots from the television in future posts, but not sure if that may break some type of law, so may shy away from that. I’ll definitely try to contribute my share with some MLB, NBA and NFL posts. I’m also posting in other groups, so trying to find a balance and just getting over COVID, but I definitely want to write about my major league sports fanaticism.

Thank you for your post. I admit that I am probably not curating the way I should. Is there a link of standards I can review and follow to help promote and inspire better content? Looking to help anyway I can, though at this time, it's limited.

Not a list of standards but I look at effort etc. I have been doing this long enough to see the differences.

How do I say it so that it doesn't look as though I'm begging for upvote?

You can't lol. Checking back on your posts you were curated 8 days ago then you posted 6 days ago which is too short a gap between curation. At best anyone will get 2 votes per week but that is rare. I have seen you have posted again today and will be curating tonight so I need to read it first. Have been fair to everyone and trying to get everyone curated if they deserve it.

Glad you understand 😁

Thanks for the clarification. So, ideally, it is one upvote per user per week?

Yes but if you do a great post it will get curated. Think if we have 200 active users and 100 decent authors fighting for possibly 50-60 votes per week it would be great. I think we have about 40-50 authors now but they don't post every week.

It is nice seeing more and more posts coming out via your curation initiative. I'd love to see some more posts besides actifit posts. I have had to start upvoting them just so my voting power doesn't go to waste. I am going to be posting more about baseball as the college basketball season comes to a close and that season gears up.

I've put out a couple posts in the last few days. I'm planning on trying for 2-3 week going forward. The Cub/Leo happenings have been sucking up a lot of my attention but I think I'm pretty much where I wanna be there so I can start focusing on other things again. I do agree, it is a little disheartening not to see much in the way of "sports" articles. Almost everything is Actifit. Which is great for that, but hard to even find regular sports articles let alone comment on them. And the ones that do get written get buried quickly under all the actifits coming out. I mean, I've put out three articles in the last 10 days and gotten a grand total of one comment. Oh well, keep grinding I suppose.
