Sports OCD Curation Incubation Update

With just two more updates left before the year end we are getting close to our goal of having 1000 members. Up 19 new members from a week ago we are currently sitting at 930 so it will be close and something to keep building on. OCD with it's curation program has really helped grow the community and generally I have found the standard of posts being published improving consistently. When we first started out it was more of a struggle to find new users to push forward and every week now we are getting new names added to the regular club. I say regular club as their posts are worthy of extra upvotes.

In the last post I asked for ideas on trying to find how we can improve the overall experience on Sportstalk and we have had some responses. @patrickulrich has seen them and I am hoping some of them can be up for discussion. This is a community tribe and Patrick has made it clear the community makes the decisions on what happens.

@foodies-bee-hive has been putting through some changes and has made the information for other tribes to use and incorporate this. I just want to say thanks to @jasonbu for allowing other communities to use these tools as it does show at a glance what is happening. I am sure there are some other things we can add to this to like top curators etc. The more information we have at a glance will help attract more interest in the tribe.

A few people have mentioned that the @sportstalk tribe needs updating and we have to understand we are stuck in a catch 22 situation. If we pay a developer to overhaul the site and it costs $100's of dollars and they are paid in sports they could become the leading token holder overnight or worse yet flood the exchange. I suppose the best question to ask is there any developer in the sports tribe? @patrickulrich has been learning code, but have no clue what his abilities are just yet. No pressure Patrick lol.

This week @sportstalk had 19 posts submitted for curation with @ocd so we are close to averaging 3 per day and wish we could get this up to 4 at some point soon. If you are missing out please keep trying and have a look at what is being curated. I hate to pick any authors out for a special mention, but take a peek at @mvl2304's blog. The time and effort he puts into his posts is worth a vote just for that alone and throw in that they are varied and interesting. It is not surprising that this guy is trying to become a sports journalist back home. It kind of shows us what could happen if we have 50 or 100 more just like him writing on here. That is where we are heading hopefully as the popularity of the site grows.

I have been trying to think of a tag for the next round of posts and was thinking we have all done something stupid or embarrassing in sport at one time or another. If you have something I am sure we would all love to hear about it and use the #sportsfail.

Please don't forget to keep adding any ideas on what you would like to do or see change on the @sportstalk site. There is no such thing as a bad idea so don't hold back and give it some thought. I am pushing this train of thought as standing still and doing nothing will ultimately harm the tribe more and we need to do something.

I will finish off by adding a post on this topic by @cryptosimplify. He has some ideas and raised the gaming posts questioning why they can earn sports for non related sports content. I am with him on this as they have a Hive gaming community these days.

It's exciting to be back to see that things were moving quite fine while I was away. Thanks C&C for all you do for the STS community. Glad to see Patrickulrich get more involved than ever. SPORTS would moon again. I'll keep doing what I know how to do well.

That is the best news I have heard for ages. Anything would be appreciated by the entire community and @patrickulrich. The beauty is you are already part of sportstalk.

I'm also excited to hear this. There is a future for SPORTS if you'll stay to build on here.

That'd be amazing @cryptosimplify! We could definitely use help. I was working on attempting to bring a DAO type functionality to STS but found that would be far too expensive in terms of development costs. Fortunately I was able to learn about what ARCHON's tribe is building and we'll be able to adopt their proposal system soon. If you have ideas for projects you think would be beneficial to the community that might be a way to grow stake while providing new tools for the community.

One thing in particular that might be beneficial immediately is integrating additional information, like the charts from Foodies above, into our daily @sportstalksocial post. The script I run to create that can be found at https://github.com/sportstalk/sportsdaily. I don't know if that's something that might interest you but its something I think we'll have the most immediate need of until the proposal system is ready. If you have any thoughts for integrating more stuff into that report to make it more valuable to the community I would be happy to approve some PRs. Otherwise I'm completely open to new ideas for other projects as well.

That is awesome news. I am happy to see some forward movement on all of this. It would really be cool to see some kind of larger token burn. I know a lot of people are turned off due to the extremely large token pool. I am happy to see that more and more people are getting curated.

Awesome! Thanks for the mention @cryptoandcoffee and I wish I had more time to focus on tools. Many things come out of necessity. Automation helps with some tasks. I've made this one tool (open sourceopen source)... I'll be updating it as I go. Feel free to update. And when you make your next massive nacho plate or favourite sports ritual meal feel free to slap it in @foodiesunite :-)

Glad to see progress in the community but I still think that there's a lot more we can do in terms of marketing and promotion. Sports is a multibillion dollar industry that we can take good advantage of if we take things a step further by marketing and pushing the agenda to big names in the business.

Perhaps consider bringing in some known pundits and also support niche content that drives audience. We also need to do something about the token price and all that tokenomics stuff, so we can attract investors.

I also think the sportstalksocial front-end can do with some improvements. Also, while the front-end isn't about finance, we need to talk a bit more about token related activities, because that's the kind of thing that investors are interested in

We will have to be more proactive on all fronts. There is so much that needs to happen and fixing and changing the front end is the first point that needs tackling. A new beginning and we will find new users plus we can get sports people to write on here once we have done this.

I'm looking forward to that and I'd like to participate in this growth, just in case you need extra hands

First of all, I am very grateful for the feedback from the community, not only with the votes but with the interaction, more and more users are reading my post and that in the end is the reason why I share them here. Any colleague here who thinks I can help or teach you about writing content, looking for sources, using markdown codes or whatever, feel free to contact me and I will gladly help you in any way I can.

On the other hand, I have a couple of suggestions that may improve the interaction with the community, I would like to know what you think about it:

  • First, create contests with rewards either in Sports or in HIVE / HBD, I have seen that many communities use this to their benefit and it works quite well for them and I think it would be great here, I could take care of doing some in the community myself Using the sports theme, if you allow me, to be in accordance with STS, as I predicted about matches, cups or championships, there are many ideas and initiatives that can be carried out and all in the end will only bring positive results in the interaction with the community.

  • This point is not very clear to me, but if it does not exist, it would be good if they created an official trail that STS users could follow to participate in the curation of our content, I say this because if there is one, I do not know it and I would like be part of it.

Outside of HIVE, I am dedicated to advertising and marketing, and I have also been acquiring knowledge in digital marketing and I am willing to offer my knowledge to the community in order to make it grow, speaking more directly, it would be a total success to create social networks STS officials that generate passive interaction with the content we publish on HIVE, I think Twitter would be a magnificent tool for this, and that could generate interest in people who do not know this world and awaken in them interest in joining HIVE and also STS , which is what you want, I personally hope that we reach the goal of 1000 followers and even more, it is something completely possible and I think we are on the right way.
