Sportstalk OCD Incubation Curation Update + Ideas

This weeks post is a little different as we need to start upping our game and I have made some suggestions as a starting point. If you have any other ideas please add them to the comments and lets see what we end up with. Sports people are known as jocks and a little slow so lets prove them wrong as we have brains too.

We are slowly chipping away at the target of 1000 members in the sports community by the end of this year. This week saw another 16 accounts join taking our tally to 911 members in total. Not everyone is active though so that is a little misleading with only 185 accounts doing something this week.

I think we need some sort of chart that we can display each week so we can see at a glance how the community is fairing and maybe start comparing to other tribes to see how well or bad we are doing as a group. Maybe @patrickulrich will have some ideas where to find this sort of information as I believe we need something else. I don't have the time to do that type of post and need someone who has the ability to get hold of these figures somewhere. Once we have that it will be easier to see how the community is fairing and what we need to do to improve.

A chart showing who the top token earners are for the week, top curators and top voters with the number of votes etc. Engagement is the key to growth and success and we as a group need to stick our hands up and do more. We all value this community and we need to do something otherwise we are just idling along and not really growing and improving.

OCD has helped tremendously and we need to add to this ourselves and start trying to do 5 comments a day (only a suggestion) at least which is not that much. I have noticed the regular names commenting and would like to see some new faces. I am looking for comments to upvote as the linear curve makes no difference if it is a post or a comment regarding curation rewards.

18 posts were put forward this week to the OCD incubation curation program and received upvotes. Very few took up the challenge of #crazysports so we will leave that for another week incase some missed out. I am looking for the next topic so any suggestions that you might think will be popular pop the suggestions in the comments.

Over the last 11 weeks we have had some great posts by many users and I am hoping the trend will continue to grow. What is still sad to see is the trending page hasn't changed much since the linear curation was implemented. These posts are now tucked away and hidden never to be seen again. If you go and compare Peakd Sports against @sportstaksocial's front end they are vastly different as the decent stuff is trending on Peakd Sports. Unfortunately this is not a great advert for bringing in new users as this does not show the best posts and what is good with the community. I Don't blame the users in trending as they have large stake and are well supported and have been here from virtually day one.

Please don't get me wrong this is not a complaining post, but one highlighting what I think needs to change to help the community move forward. I do believe the trending page for Sportstalk can be changed to reflect Peakd with some out of the box thinking, so any ideas would be helpful right now. All suggestions in the comments below please and let us see how good we are working together.

Those are some good points. I notice that my sports account was sitting on quite a bit of VP, so I have been trying to get out and do a little more manual curation on the sports side of things. I'd like to see the community become active and vibrant again.

I think the community needs to up their game as it has to improve or it will die at this rate over time. Something needs to change.

Power-up challenge from @razackpulo.sport is a good idea to spread out the stake. I also think what about creating a summary post who among these authors were being nominated/voted by OCD so people can have references on what kind and quality of posts you/they are submitting to OCD.

Another thing is to remove @sportstalksocial posts in the trending page and just remain one there (the most recent one) being pinned on top, that way it can give more exposure to other posts. This could also be applied to other Sportstalk users if there's a way to just limit 1 post per user on the trending page.

Lastly, we need more use cases of Sports aside from the traditional way of DPOS. I really don't have the technicalities to do it but given the amount of income we generated from ads that will be used to burn Sports, I believe it will be better to just use it to fund important projects like that betting site, or anything influential.

The Proposal system will be amazing too and hoping users will submit their ideas/apps that will be supported by the Sportstalk community.

Summary post can be done but all one has to do is look at peakd as sportstalk trending is a waste of time. Go and compare and it is obvious which ones are ocd as they are the ones with serious upvotes.
We need something to start happening otherwise if it stays as it is users will disappear and quickly. We have 180 active users out of nearly 1000 members which is not very good stats. Many are happy to post their posts but that is it and not doing anything else to help others around them. I am concerned as sports is falling behind the other tribes and there has been nothing new for over a year. That trend cannot continue otherwise it is going to slowly disappear.

Yeah. I like the PeakD version better than Sportstalk. The quality is much better than it's just that Sportstalksocial provides payout in Sports tokens or does PeakD have that version?

Hoping for the best of Sports.

I really like the challenges that the community does on SPORTS. I wish that the SportsPredictSocial site would have been finished to allow for a regular prediction system to reward users in SPORTS. I think that would have been an excellent dapp.

Most of the time the @sportstalksocial posts are appearing in the advertising slots for promoting posts. This was partially intentionally done to increase the cost of advertising since that then requires a user to pay more than the community is burning by voting for those posts. They usually don't go higher than most top posts do but that's not always the case. That being said I would be in full favor of a code change to Nitrous allowing use to limit the bot posts.

I definitely agree about use cases. We've had issues with maintaining those in the past but will hopefully have more options once a solid proposal system can be utilized to determine who to fund for creating new use cases.

I don't think we are there yet for that. Personally I think more needs to happen and change on here before we do that sort of thing.

I like the idea of that additional information about tribe performers. That would be a good thing to get added to the daily curation report. I'll see what all it would take to get that added in.

I think focusing attention on comments is a great initiative especially considering the linear rewards. I think this can go a long way to building interest in sporting content beyond what even the rewards will bring.

I really liked the #crazysports initiative. I was kind of blown away by some of the new sports to find. I applaud you for building with that.

I think the trending will continue to improve over time. It's going to take a while for those with autovotes to turn them off and the flow of SPORTS to align to those creators who are bringing more thoughtful content to the table. It does seem to me that it has improved since the change though there's still a lot of improvement to be had.

I personally have a much better time using the site by focusing on sporting tags at deeper level. Instead of focusing on New or Trending for the entire site I try to focus in on individual tags like #football or #basketball. It's usually much better curated to my interests since it's just the sport I'm interested in. That's one thing I would really like to push is utilizing the tagging system to make that curated content networks even better.

Thank you for doing posts like these. We need as much critical thinking with suggestions for improvement we can get. It's the only way we can improve!

A nice thing that could be improved in the sporttalks front end it is the editor to write.

We need one thing equal or equivalent to the PeakD that is more user friendly and we dont ude "code"to write the post.
