Egypt 2021 World Championship Report #1

Many of you may not know it but during the month of January (from 10 to 31) the handball world cup will be held.

Since I play handball and love this sport I will try daily to summarize the day of the competition.

This edition is the twenty-seventh edition of the World Cup and is being held in Egypt.

Format

This edition will be held in a new format.
32 countries will be present, divided into 8 groups of 4 teams. The top three in each group will go to the next round (Main Round).
In this phase the 24 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 6 teams, of which the first two teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

Countries

The list of countries was changed a few days before the start of the World Cup due to outbreaks of COVID-19 that were identified in the selection of the USA (18 positive cases) and the Czech Republic.

These two countries were replaced by Macedonia and Switzerland.

After this change the groups were as follows

Matches played

Currently 8 games have already been played.

The munidal kick-off game was between Egypt and Chile, ending up amphiterion by winning 35-29.
Of the remaining 7 games, 4 were very close in that the game was won at most by 4 goals difference and there was also a tie at 32 between Belarus and Russia.
However we had 2 games with absurd differences that were in the game Slovenia vs Czech Republic that ended 51 - 29 and the other game was Sweden vs Macedonia that ended 32-20.

Tomorrow we will have interesting games like Spain vs Brazil and Tunisia vs Poland.
