My Handball Season 2020/21 Report #2

This week was a different week, as we played 3 games in 6 days (1 from the Portuguese cup and 2 from the championship).

Unfortunately we have not won any game which does not help to overcome the bad phase we are going through.

In this post we will not have the highlights video due to one of the games not being filmed and also because we are on vacation and do not want to upset people to have the videos. So this post will be an analysis of each of the games and understand what went wrong.

Portugal Cup

This game was against a team from the 2nd division called Académica de São Mamede.

Our coach decided to make some changes due to it being a game to attack and giving some players more time.

Even so, we started well and started winning 5-1.
However, even though I was able to defend several shots, my team started to miss many shots out of the goal, causing us to lose 12-10 at halftime.

In the second half we went after the loss, but in the middle of the second half a colleague of mine had a 4-minute penalty due to speaking to the referee.
This meant that for 4 minutes we played with less than 1 player and our opponent took the opportunity to be 5 goals ahead.

In the last 10 minutes we managed to recover to 1 goal difference but after several mistakes in the attack we ended up losing by 3 goals.
In this game I played 40 minutes (30 minutes in the first half and 10 minutes at the end of the second half) and I was 40% effective.

Championship

This was an important game for our purposes as it was a game with a maintenance rival.

Although our goalkeeper's performance was not the best, our team won 12-11 at halftime.
The problem was the fact that in the 2nd half our team was 20 minutes without being able to score 1 goal.

This result made the difference between us and Sporting da Horta bigger.

This game against Benfica is not at all "in our league" however the team needed to demonstrate something to everyone after those two defeats.
This does not mean that we had to win, as this was almost impossible due to the difference between the teams.

The team needed to show determination and willingness.
The team managed to give a good answer, because at the interval we lost by 15-14.
In the 2nd half Benfica ended up showing its superiority winning by 35-27.

Now it remains to rest on this mini-vacation amidst the festivities and return with the desire to turn the situation around and achieve the much desired goal.
