[ENG + ESP] Real Madrid achieves an epic tie with Sevilla in the 93-minute mark!

In the next few weeks and months, there are very important matches such as the Champions League final and the Euro Cup and Copa America tournaments, and I am crossing my fingers and hoping no other power outages occur during those matches.
After the disappointing performances from Hazard in recent matches, this time he started on the bench. Maybe Zidane is tired of giving him opportunities only for him to waste them time and time again. The fact he didn't do anything productive against Chelsea in the previous match must have been very frustrating for both of them.
Sevilla is a great team, they are currently in position #4 and they still have mathematical chances of winning the league, although I believe they are the team with the least chances of doing it. Nevertheless, the fact they have mathematical chances is a feat in itself.
They are always competitive in European competitions, especially in the Europa League, which is a trophy they have won several times in the past decade. They have also participated in the Champions League a few times with decent performances.
Sevilla has only been playing league matches since the beginning of March, while Real Madrid was participating in the Champions League until this past Wednesday. So Sevilla's squad has probably less fatigue.
How was the match?
Sevilla started the match showing more initiative and impetus than Real Madrid. This was surprising for me to watch because it is Real Madrid the one who is obliged to win this match. They are the bigger club and the ones that only depend on themselves to win the league. Or at least that was the case before this match started. Maybe Madrid's players have some accumulated fatigue after playing the Champions League semifinal against Chelsea.
The first legal goal was scored by Sevilla after a great collective play that started with a free-kick. They passed the ball to the right side and then they crossed it into the penalty box. After a header, another player received the ball, dodged a defender, and scored a great goal. It was impossible for Courtois to stop that shot and great merit for Sevilla to create that good play. Benzema had scored a header before Sevilla's goal but the VAR determined there was an offside during the play and the goal wasn't valid.
During the first half, Real Madrid was unable to cause much danger to Sevilla. Their lack of goal makes itself clear when we see Casemiro, who is a defensive midfielder, being the one that shoots the most during the first 45 minutes. Sevilla was a bit better in the first half, not only thanks to their goal but they also had more possession and more passes. Madrid was more effective when it comes to doing shots, but without scoring any this was of little help.
Vinicius was electric as always but his attempts at causing danger have been unproductive in the past few matches. In fact, he had a great opportunity to score around the 65-minute mark but missed it inexplicable. The ball could have ended up in Benzema's boots but Vinicius interrupted it.
1 minute after that play, Asensio and Miguel Gutierrez went inside the pitch, and Marcelo and Modric went out. Not one minute has passed and Asensio scored a great goal after a good pass from Kross. It was probably Asensio's second touch in the match and it was already a goal, the first one was just a couple of seconds before at the beginning of this same play.
Marcelo wasn't very dominant as a left-back, but this is hardly surprising nowadays. Miguel Gutierrez also plays as a left-back, and it is good to give him more opportunities because he is very young and will be an important player for the team in the years to come.
The second Sevilla's goal came with a penalty caused by a handball from Militao during a corner kick. The moment was very confusing because Madrid made a counterattack that also ended with a penalty, but VAR needed to confirm which one of the 2 penalties was the valid one. Since Militao's handball came first, this was the valid penalty and Rakitic scored it with a decent shot. There will certainly be a lot of controversy around this decision because similar handballs have been ignored in previous matches as they were considered to be involuntary. This time, the referee with the help of VAR, decided this was a valid penalty.
After that goal Real Madrid got very intense with their attacks. Their chances of winning the league would be almost reduced to zero, and they were frustrated both with the result of the match and with the referee's decision regarding the penalties controversy. They attempted time and time again to tie the match, and in the 93-minute mark, Kross heroically made a shot from outside the penalty box, it bounced on Hazard's boot and went inside the net. It was a lucky goal for sure and they almost scored their third goal seconds later with a great shot from Casemiro.
It is fair to say Real Madrid was better in the second half while Sevilla was better in the first half. Real Madrid's urgency to score goals was very palpable and the tie can be considered a proper result. In the end, Real Madrid accumulated more goal attempts and ball possession but Sevilla's defensive work should also be recognized.
Whats next?
With this result, Atletico Madrid is once again the favorite to win the league, and there are still 3 more matches to go. I will probably continue to watch the important matches of this tournament until there is a clear winner. For now, anything can happen in each of the next 3 matches. The top 3 teams, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are very tight on the table, and this is certainly an exciting ending for such a long competition.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, there will be a lot of good matches during the months of May, June, and July, especially the Champions League final, the Euro Cup, and the Copa America. So there is still a lot of football before this season ends.
I am not sure which is the next match I will watch, it will be either a LaLiga match or one of the finals from the national club cups that will be taking place during the next 15 days. Either way, I plan to write a post about any match I am able to watch.

Tras un cabezazo, otro jugador recibió el balón, esquivó a un defensor y marcó un gran gol. Fue imposible para Courtois detener ese disparo y gran mérito para el Sevilla crear esa buena jugada. Benzema había marcado de cabeza antes del gol del Sevilla pero el VAR determinó que hubo un fuera de juego durante la jugada y el gol no fue válido.
Durante la primera parte, el Real Madrid no pudo causar mucho peligro al Sevilla. Su falta de gol se hace patente cuando vemos a Casemiro, que es mediocampista defensivo, siendo el que más dispara durante los primeros 45 minutos. El Sevilla estuvo un poco mejor en la primera parte, no solo gracias al gol sino que también tuvo más posesión y más pases. El Madrid fue más efectivo a la hora de hacer tiros, pero sin marcar ninguno todo esto sirvió de poco.
Vinicius fue eléctrico como siempre, pero sus intentos de causar peligro han sido improductivos en los últimos partidos. De hecho, tuvo una gran oportunidad de anotar alrededor de los 65 minutos, pero la falló inexplicablemente. El balón podría haber ido a parar a las botas de Benzema pero Vinicius lo interrumpió.

El segundo gol del Sevilla llegó de penalti provocado por una mano de Militao durante un saque de esquina. El momento fue muy confuso porque el Madrid hizo un contragolpe que también terminó con penalti, pero el VAR necesitaba confirmar cuál de los 2 penaltis era el válido. Como la mano de Militao sucedió primero, este fue el penalti válido y Rakitic lo marcó con un tiro decente. Ciertamente habrá mucha controversia en torno a esta decisión porque se han ignorado manos similares en partidos anteriores por considerarse manos involuntarias. Esta vez, el árbitro con la ayuda del VAR, decidió que se trataba de un penalty válido.
Tras ese gol, el Real Madrid se puso muy intenso con sus ataques. Sus posibilidades de ganar la liga se reducirían casi a cero si salían derrotados, y estaban frustrados tanto con el resultado del partido como con la decisión del árbitro sobre la polémica de los penaltis. Intentaron una y otra vez empatar el partido, y en el minuto 93, Kross hizo un disparo desde fuera del área, rozó la bota de Hazard y se fue dentro de la red. Fue un gol de suerte y casi lograron su tercer gol segundos después con un gran disparo de Casemiro.
Es justo decir que el Real Madrid fue mejor en la segunda mitad mientras que el Sevilla fue mejor en la primera. La urgencia del Real Madrid por marcar goles era muy palpable y el empate se puede considerar un buen resultado. Al final, el Real Madrid acumuló más intentos de gol y posesión de balón pero también hay que reconocer el gran trabajo defensivo del Sevilla.
¿Qué sigue?
Con este resultado, el Atlético de Madrid vuelve a ser el favorito para ganar la Liga, y aún quedan 3 partidos más. Probablemente seguiré viendo los partidos importantes de este torneo hasta que haya un ganador claro. Por ahora, cualquier cosa puede pasar en cada uno de los próximos 3 partidos. Los 3 mejores equipos, Atlético de Madrid, Real Madrid y Barcelona están muy apretados en la tabla, y este es sin duda un final emocionante para una competencia tan larga.
Como mencioné al comienzo de este post, habrá muchos buenos partidos durante los meses de mayo, junio y julio, especialmente la final de la Champions League, la Eurocopa y la Copa América. Así que todavía queda mucho fútbol antes de que acabe esta temporada.
