The Case For Harry Kane at Manchester United

The English Premier League is officially in the second half stage, the January window is closing and minds have to shift to decisions that need to be made in the summer window. In this case, Manchester United.

Looking at the current team, there are a few problem areas that stick out. The defence, especially the goalkeeper, centre back and right back positions all need serious investment.

The midfield is another area that is in desperate need of quality. Man United cannot simply rely on an aging Casemiro (despite how good he has been) and Eriksen. The rotation quality of Fred and McTominay must be upgraded.

Finally, the forward position. Over the past few years, the club has been in dire need of a quality, youthful striker for the long-term. Stop gaps, such as Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Igalo, Ronaldo and now Wout Weghorst have helped, but they have not made United a title challenging threat.

Hence, Harry Kane!

Why Kane?

The Harry Kane move has echoes of the 2012 signing of Robin Van Persie, the want-away Dutch striker from Arsenal. I vividly remember the incredible impact he had supported by the hard working Wayne Rooney.

Many Man United fans will concede that he was the main catalyst that drove the club to Alex Ferguson's final Premier League title. Kane could have a similar effect for the club.

This season, he has scored 16 goals in the Premier League, just 9 behind Erling Haaland in a very poor Tottenham side. One can only imagine how many goals he would score at the tip of a strong side playing beautiful possession-based football under a progressive manager.

Furthermore, it goes without saying that Kane is the complete striker. Left foot, right foot, headed goals, assists and incredible hold up play. He is a traditional and modern striker in one package.

At the end of the season, Harry Kane will only have one year left on his contract. Although there are credible rumours that he may extend his contract, surely after publicly expressing his desire to leave a short while ago, he won't repeat the same mistake of signing another deal.

Right? Well, nobody knows!

Regardless, Kane is likely to go for slightly less than 100 Million Pounds, a great deal in my view. With his proven Premier League pedigree, every top club should be after his signature.

The only question mark on Kane is his age and his ambition.

Leaving Spurs in the summer will more than confirm his desire to achieve more than a top-scorer record. His age, on the other hand, will just have to be a risk any prospective club will have to take.

What makes you think

A.) he wants to leave
B,) he’d want to join United
C.) you’d be able to do a deal with Levy

Excellent questions.
A: He will win nothing with Spurs.
B: He wants to play in the Premier League and no other top club is set up perfectly for him to be first choice.
C: This is the major hurdle. You have to think that Levy wouldn't be willing to lose Kane on a free. Kane will have the opportunity to run down his contract if Levy denies him a move. I think he will play hardball, but a bid of 100+ million would be enough to tempt him to sell.

And you think he’ll win something at United?

Jeez, you guys have a good couple of months and all of a sudden you’re world beaters who can guarantee silverware. Delusions of grandeur…

I think it’ll come down to whether Spurs qualify for the Champions League. If we do, he’s not going to be banging down Levy’s door for the chance to join United and most likely he’ll sign a new contract. If we don’t, it’s 50/50.

I know he will win nothing with Spurs, that's for sure. 😁
If he signs a new contract just because of finishing in the top 4, he definitely deserves to retire trophyless. Your squad is so poor. Conte has suggested it will take 3 to 4 windows, which is about two years.

Kane will be 32 and he will definitely have locked himself out of a top move.

Look, if you are being truthful to yourself, you would admit Kane needs to move on somewhere. It doesn't have to be United. #FreeKane.

Getting Kane is unlikely. Levie isn't going to let that happen. Better United should go for Sergej Milinković-Savić in midfield. Zaniolo could be interesting as well. Asensio and Ceballos are proving their worth and it's the right time to strike. Both clubs share a good relationship as well.

Victor Osimhen can be the solution for striker. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is also very good.

My word! I have never seen a worse roster of transfer suggestions than this. Savic, Asensio, Ceballos??

Apart from speed and height, I have not seen what else Osimhen offers. He has no technical skills and gets injured so often. If we can't get Kane there are better options out there.

Suggesting Haaland and Kane? Can United even sign them?

Mate Do you even know Savic? Have you seen Ceballos and Asensio lately!

Ceballos played for Arsenal and was quite poor. Why would anyone think he would play any different for Manchester United? Asensio has always had on and off seasons. He hasn't even played outside the Spanish league. Not a risk worth taking in my view considering the fee he might command to leave Real Madrid.

You also ask, do you think we can sign Kane? It all depends on who our new owners will be. The striker position is our main problem area. A significant investment in this position would be a good signal to other potential signings on the seriousness and competitiveness of the club going forward.

Man, I am also a United supporter. Levie won't let Kane leave. Ceballos is doing better than Kroos and Mordic right now! Madrid wasn't offering him a new contract and he earned his place in style, that Los Blancos are in a rush to renew it.

He has always been a bright player just didn't get his time to shine. Look at Oddegard! Madrid reject! Now doing better than KBD!

Harry Kane should have left Spurs when he had the chance to leave, it is sad he has not won an EPL title since he started his career in England, he deserves a title and needs to leave Spurs to achieve it.

The question remains, is he ambitious enough?? Maybe mediocrity is where he thrives.
