Shock At Roland Garros

The tournament has just began and I'm already shocked. Possibly I'm not the only one as what's happened today is not what millions have been waiting for.

If you're not a tennis fan and don't follow the tournament, you may ask why I am shocked. The snapshot above shows the reason.

The Austrian Dominic Thiem started as 4th seed and had a high chance to get into the final. He's been struggling with injuries and mental health issues, he admitted that at the last tournament in Spain, but he also had a great performance, regardless of him missing a couple of tournaments and having less practice.

Today on the other hand something has happened that wasn't too visible for us. I can only guess, but it must have been a mental blockage or something similar.

Dominic Thiem was leading to two sets, things looked great for him, then I believe he hit the wall and lost the next three sets. He made a lot of mistakes, which is not like him.

Pablo Andújar on the other hand was great. He kept it together and was focused all the time. This was the biggest win of his career as he's 35 years old now and has never won against a top level player. He was good today but a good amount of luck contributed to his winning because if Thiem would have been his old self, this would have never happened.

Anyway, the outcome that counts and the result is that Thiem is going home. With the Austrian eliminated, Nadal may have a bigger chance to win, if the Greek can't stop him. There are a few players who can stop him, besides Tsitsipas, let's see who will be that. They say if Nadal can't win most of the games in a match, he gets frustrated. Maybe this helps eliminate him.

Looks like Fognini was in a good mood today as he was able to qualify for the next round, defeating the French Grégoire Barrère in three sets out of five.

Márton Fucsovics also had a goo day, as he won against the French
Gilles Simon. French had a bad day today it seems.

This was the other shock of the day. I can't understand how could Evans lose, honestly. Miomir Kecmanović's ranking is No. 48 at the moment, I've never heard of him, let alone see him playing. Shocking!

Spain had a good day today, both Roberto Bautista Agut and Pablo Carreño Busta both won, plus Pablo Andújar is also Spanish, so they are qualified for the next round.

At the moment of writing Alexander Zverev is still playing against
Oscar Otte. He lost the first two sets and fighting for victory. I hope he can win as losing him would be another shock.

Tsitsipas is scheduled for later today. The match may be delayed but I hope he can win. After the two shocking loss of the day, I can't be sure of anything anymore. These new guys are capable of anything.

Tomorrow will be even more interesting. Some big names are scheduled to play. I'm not going to list them here, but I'm looking forward to seeing the matches. Fingers crossed!
