Wimbledon - June 29
In tennis, no day is boring when there are these high profile tournaments. Every day something happens and it's not always good. The tournament has started without a few big names and continuing with shocking events every day.
What I find strange and most uncomfortable is that there's a curfew in place, at 11 pm local time matches end. Each day there are 3 - 5 matches suspended due to the curfew. These matches suspended not only create a congestion, but are also frustrating for the players too.
Hubert Hurkacz vs Lorenzo Musetti
This is one of the shocks of yesterday, but maybe the shock is only for me. Hurkacz is 14th seed, while Musetti is no seed, but even so, I was expecting Musetti to win. That did not happen and the Italian got eliminated. Maybe next time.
Jan-Lennard Struff vs Daniil Medvedev
Struff had the misfortune to meet 2nd seed early in the tournament. Struff had a very good evolution this year and i was hoping to see him later in the tournament, but Medvedev is a tough cookie, just a few are able to defeat him. Lately he got himself together and got better on clay as well. Too bad for Stuff.
Roger Federer vs Adrian Mannarino
This matches ended with a walkover and fortunately this time it wasn't Federer. I was afraid the Swiss won't be able to face the physical pressure, but so far so good, he's doing well. He was leading the match almost all the way, except for the third set. He's qualified for the next round and I'm looking forward to seeing how far he can go.
Tallon Griekspoor vs Alexander Zverev
Zverev had no problem winning against Tallon Griekspoor, it was an easy three set match.
Dan Evans vs Feliciano López
I suppose there's a bit of a pressure on Evans as he's playing at home. He has little chance to win the title, but who knows, miracles happen all the time. He's a solid player, capable of defeating even the best players, as he has done in the past and winning against Feliciano López was easy yesterday. I'm really curious to see him in this tournament.
Sebastian Korda vs Alex de Minaur
Poor de Minaur had a bad day yesterday. He's not a top level player yet, but leaving the tournament so early is not what we've been hoping for.
Five matches were suspended yesterday.
Nick Kyrgios vs Ugo Humbert - this match can go either way and I expect Humbert to win. Nick Kyrgios must have been really angry for being taken away from him the chance to entertain the public.
Cristian Garín vs Bernabe Zapata Miralles - Garin is one of my favorites from the new generation and I really want him to advance in this tournament. He's 17th seed and he has to work hard as the results are not good, but it's not over till it is.
The biggest surprise comes from the ladies though. Serena Williams got injured and had to retire. Looks like the drama never ends with her. Her dreams to win another Grand Slam title has been shattered. Not that I think she had real chances here, but that's my own opinion.
Congratulations!
