From disaster to triumph.

A few days ago, my favorite basketball team played one of the worst games this season. We lost to Anadolu Efes by 23 points. Recently, we also lost to Maccabi by a bunch of points. I was really disappointed in these losses because both those teams had a lot of injured players, so on paper my team was heavy favorites to win those games. But they did a good job against Partizan yesterday and returned to the victory road. In fact, saying that they did a good job is an understatement- my favorite team won by 41 points and achieved the biggest victory in our Euroleague history. After this victory, Žalgiris is in 7 spot in the Euroleague. That is no longer so bad- we would advance to play-in if the regular season ended right now. But I still feel that this team could have a better standing. We certainly have one of the best teams in our club's history. It is a shame that for a while we were missing a few key players. As a result of that, we were not able to take a few victories that we should have won had the team been healthy. It is strange how big a contrast exist in basketball. One day we lost by 23 points, and it looks like even the best players could not score, even if the baskets were the size of the ocean. And a few days later, we won by 41 points and made history. But that unpredictability also adds beauty to the basketball and, in particular Euroleague. Each team can be dangerous, and each victory can decide who will advance to the next stage. But I hope that such a massive win for my favorite team will regain joy for basketball and continue fighting as a one united fist. We really need to gain momentum and win a bigger streak of games. The first half of the season still has two games, and after that, we will still play the second half of the regular season. So there is still plenty of time to gain a better position among Euroleague teams. I think that this team is strong enough to fight for 4 spot in the regular season. That would mean the world to us- not only would we advance directly to the playoffs, but we would also have home court advantage. And having more games at home would mean that the team will gain more money from tickets and have a better chance of keeping our best player, Sylvain Francisco, for next season as well. So I hope that my favorite team will finish the regular season with at least 24-25 victories. I hope that this would be enough to achieve 4 spot.

This season perfectly shows how unpredictable basketball can be. The losses were disappointing, but that massive win proved Žalgiris still has something special. Let’s see if they can build on it.

And imagine how many nerves I would lose if I followed basketball, because I see two clubs from my city on this list? 🤔
Probably the same as some Turk or Jew?🙂

Yes basketball is fun as long as your team plays well. But it can be stressful as well.
