A Great Couple Of Days In Sports!

Curacao is in lockdown yet again but luckily there were so many interesting sports events to watch!

Road to Qatar

Suriname and Curacao have both started exceptionally well in their bid for their first every World Cup Qualification!
(I have ties to both countries so I was more than happy with the results).
Both countries have seen great changes in their stance on dual nationality of enabling diaspora to choose to play for the national teams. I'm not going to go into details here but it has resulted in an expanded talent pool and a better chance than ever to qualify for the big tournaments.

Suriname faced the Cayman Islands at home first and put on a show:.

And faced Aruba in their second game.

Curaçao faced St. Vincent & The Grenadines.

And Cuba in their second game. A much harder test

It would be an amazing feat for us to qualify and I'm hoping the recent succes will translate in.... Confidence and more investment in sports, in both countries.
I truly think sports can have a lasting (positive) impact on society as a whole and I want this to be part of that journey!

.........................

UFC

This week in the UFC saw Francis N'gannou finally win the heavyweight belt!
He knocked out Stipe Miocic and showcased his growth.

He also had a very humble interview which always helps...

......................

Formula 1

Last but not least, I decided to start watching Formula 1 this season. I usually only tuned in for the big races but I'm gonna give it a try to watch from the start. Part of why I got to this point is the series "Drive to Survive" on Netflix. It shows more of the drivers and teams behind the scenes and I think that is what did it for me. I wanna know what happens now 🤣.
I was not disappointed as this was a thriller at the end.
Lewis Hamilton had to defend for his life in the last few rounds.

................

All in all I'm a happy kid! It's definitely a bright spot in this lockdown....
How are you doing?
What kind of sports do you watch?

Cheers, Gyanno.

Ps. Photo credit goes to the official FB pages of the national teams.

I used to watch football and volleyball regularly, but at the moment I need to stream to watch sports and my internet speed is not the best, so I have to do with re-caps or news articles.

Also happy and proud of the results. I did feel a bit of the pride hihi
I know that if I watched the games live I would be so loud and obnoxious 🤣🤣

Hahaha a little loudness never hurt anybody!
And you should feel pride! That's exactly what I hope happens after this, whatever the results may be....

Beating Cuba is hella impressive!!!

Curacao is the benchmark that Suriname is following. Of course, Suriname has a larger pool of players to choose from, but right now, Curacao looking good as well.

Yes! It wasn't easy, it was an intense game...

And that's true, I feel like the success Curacao has had in the Gold Cup might have helped with the push for the legislation change in Suriname. It comes with a lot of pressure to perform though, imagine if they lost and nothing changed 😧😧😧
