What's Next for Cristiano Ronaldo?

Cristiano Ronaldo's career is arguably one of the best, if not the best career in the history of football. We've witnessed such crazy goals, monster dribbling, and that lustrous career he's had as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus player. The last three clubs he joined along with his heroics for the Portugal national team were the crowning moments of his career.

In Ronaldo's 1145 professional appearances, he scored a whopping 819 goals and assisted 234 times, for club and country. As a matter of fact, he is the top goal scorer in the history of football with that 819 goals (and counting). At the age of 37 still grinding as a top professional, I believe he should be respected and regarded as one of the very best to have graced football.

But What's Next for Cristiano?

Despite the sweetest facts I've mentioned above, Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal is currently on the hardest times of his career. I will tell you a harsh fact - He's been rejected by a lot of top clubs in Europe. One of the most sought player in the history of football is now being delisted as a target among teams.

His recent controversy was that interview with Piers Morgan expressing his utter disappointment to Manchester United's current manager Erik Ten Hag, to the players, and to the whole management. I'll list some of the things he said below:

  • He disrespects Ten Hag because the manager is not respecting him too.
  • There are people from the management forcing him out of the club
  • There have been minimal changes to the whole Old Trafford, from food, gym, and other facilities - he said it was the same
  • Some players are forcing him out of the team.
  • He wants to compete in the champions league

That interview sparked the entire footballing world, especially Manchester United fans. A lot of fans have expressed their disappointment with that interview and lost their complete respect. He was a hero at Manchester United, sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United have developed this young man from Sporting but it ended with bitterness. That interview with Piers Morgan was the biggest reason why Manchester United had to terminate his contract, making him clubless until now.

Cristiano Ronaldo has also been very poor in the latest edition of the World Cup. I believe that was already his last stint (because he's too old for the next edition), and it did not end the way he portrayed it to be. He ended up scoring just one goal in Portugal's entire tournament run, which was a penalty. After that, he's been really silent, no assists or goals.

One very disappointing fact is that Ronaldo didn't even start in the game against Switzerland and Morocco. He was used as a substitute. This was a hard slap in the face for Ronaldo as rumors circulating the manager has not been trusting Ronaldo because he is breaking the flow of the system. It was different, when he entered the field in around 50th minute against Morocco, the team had a lot of chances. But it didn't eliminate the fact that Portugal exits the tournament in the QF.

News Spoilers for Ronaldo's Career

I have been following Ronaldo's path lately. He's been a top class and he's one of the players I enjoy watching. His stint in Real Madrid was the years of his career where he was just a monster. He is:

On a very close negotiation with Al Nassr, a Saudi-Arabian club offering 200m Euros a year! that's a whopping 200m Euros. Al Nassr believes Cristiano will boost the coutry's football project. As Fabrizio Romano mentioned,

€200m/year proposal confirmed, valid until June 2025, but it’s up to Cristiano, still waiting for his green light

I think Cristiano wants to stay in Europe still compete with the best. That's a slap on his career joining Al Nassr as it is nowhere to be found in terms of footballing quality. Also, he might be very afraid Messi catches up on his records. The Argentinian is very close to surpassing Ronaldo's record and as what many mentioned, 2nd place will not be recognized that much by the public.

I believe all of the fans are saddened to witness this downfall of Ronaldo's career. We always want the best of our experience and this Portuguese superstar is what we all fans want to see more. He's a joy to watch, he entertains us with his goals, and most importantly he motivates us with his passion and dedication to the sport. I'll rest my case for now. That's all for it now, guys.

I think the biggest mistake was to join the declining United team. Whether we accept it or not Manchester United is not a top club. It’s just that they don’t wanna accept the fact and build like Arsenal did. You can build if you don’t accept you need to change. They still go round spending huge sums of money on big names and on players who have nothing to loose joining your team.

Why don’t they look for players who are ready to fight for a starting spot in their team.

I think Ronaldo will join the Saudi club one day but not today. I think he still has it in him and this season has been very bad. He is out of form. I don’t know if this is a way of saying he doesn’t have it in him anymore, but for that we have to wait and see how he does next season.

I was really hoping he would have joined Napoli some years back but then he chose United.

Arsenal's rebuilding program paid it well. They're indeed back.

I think aging and wrong club choice (Man United) affected his decline, this is the lowest of Ronaldo I know. My G.O.A.T will bounce back. I don’t see him going To Al Nassr even if more than 200 millions Euros is been paid, he will get a top Europe team playing in the Champions league and quiet all his critics.

We can't confirm that until he announces that. Lots have been said that the deal is already close to be agreed just waiting for his green signal. Personally, I don't want to see him there. It will be a disaster for his career.

I think joining Manchester United is what ruined Ronaldo. If he had gone to city, I don’t think he’d have all these problems. Maybe he wouldn’t start every game there but he wouldn’t be a bench warmer and this question of pressing wouldn’t be too big of a deal. Even if he stayed at Juventus it would have been better.

It’s sad to see our Ronaldo being refused by the big clubs.

Point taken. He could have another great career in Manchester City. But remember, Guardiola is a system type of player. Once a player doesn't fit the system, he immediately removes it. But I trust Ronaldo's talent to fit into him, just that Guardiola is fond of passing game.

You’re right. Guardiola loves his passing which sometimes is a bit too much for me but we don’t Haaland do so much of the passing.

The way I see that city team, if you’re a good finisher you’ll do very well. You’ll get good passes from almost everyone in the team.

In my opinion Ronald made a bad move going to Juventus and a worst one returning to Manchester when the club was moving down in the last 10 years.

Ten Hag it is not only with Ronaldo. Check What Ten Hag said about the Argentinian player that is celebreting the World Cup title.
That kind of setences shall never be public in my opinion

I never saw an interview with Ten Hag about that Argentinian but very safe to say since he's been an assistant of Guardiola at Man City. We know Guardiola is crazy about M**** and so I can understand his sentiments about the Argentinian.

I agree on the Juventus transfer part. But remember, Juventus was once a Champions League finalist consistently. I don't see any team very interested and can afford Ronaldo that time in 2018.

The Argentinian player it is Lisandro Martinez.

In 2018 I think more clubes were interested to have Ronaldo but I dont know if they would paid 100 milions euros for him

I think Cristiano is just looking to retire at the top like getting a major title and dip but it just doesn't seem possible for him, especially with him also expecting to be paid top dollars. I think if he cuts a lot of his excepted pay, I could see him finishing up with a title at Bayern Munich, his current playing style doesn't differ a lot from Lewa's.

Still, I don't see him getting a better offer than Al-Nasser's as the government is paying him this much to put him as the fact of their World Cup hosting bid.

I totally agree with you here. For him to join a top-caliber club, he needs to sacrifice the financial part. Needs to accept that age is killing his value.

Well, good luck to him. I actually never liked his personality, but it is proven that no other player in the world that could match his dedication, the closest is Messi but we'll see where Messi would be in two years.

Let me give some obvious comparison. Messi is a born play maker while Ronaldo is a born forward/striker. This, for me, is an obvious reason why Messi is more marketable than Ronaldo when age is concerned. People no longer rely on Messi in terms of scoring goals, but he's mostly been relied on key passes and assists for the team. This is why I see Messi still being pursued by a lot of clubs even in a retirement age bracket.

Nice one @korver.. It's really sad to see Ronaldo go down like this.. I was really expecting a Ronaldo vs. Messi final, but things went sideways. I wish him the best, but I do feel Ronaldo should learn one or two things from Lionel Messi on a more serious note.

I just hope he stays in Europe. We know Ronaldo a great legend and it's sad to see him go.

I think he should build something in the MLS like Beckham did. He could then have ownership in one of fastest growing leagues in the world

I was kind of hoping he can still stay in Europe but MLS will will get a lot of attention if he decides there. Al Nassr's offer is really lucrative and I don't think MLS can match that.

I still think it was a bad idea for Ronny to do that interview with Piers and I think it has made some clubs afraid of signing him, he is a fantastic player and seeing him go down this way is hard to watch, I wish him the best of luck in his new journey where ever he goes in the future.

That's for sure, my friend. But on the other hand, I feel that he intentionally did that for him to force his way out of Man United. He's getting old and time is ticking, so he needs to spend his time on teams that let him play (and play champions league)
