Unexpected finish in the Olympic men's high jump competition today. Mutaz Essa Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi were tied, and they had the option of a jump-off to decide the winner. But they decided on the other option: share the gold medal. From what I read, it's the first time it ever happened.

What happens when people share the medal? Do both of them get golds and the 3rd place gets bronze?
Exactly, they both have the gold medal, while Maksim Nedasekau from Belarus gets the bronze. However, I didn't see the medal ceremony, so I'm not sure if they got an actual gold medal right away, not sure officials were ready with 2 medals...
Funny thing is apparently these 2 athletes are friends off the track as well. Quite a nice story.
