swimming self-tought 🙄

Interestingly enough this exact story I am about to tell you happened to me already several times. Recently, whilst talking to a friend at the pool about his swimming technique we were rudely interrupted. The gentleman thought it would appropriate to correct what I was saying (calling my tips and instructions for improvement nonsense). He proceeded to rant on how things should be done and that he was self-taught through online videos recorded by pro’s on youtube. After the tirade he decided to jump in and swim. Whilst watching him I was half unsure if I should jump in and save him!

Swimming is a very technical sport. You can be as sporty and as fit as you want, if you never had proper coaching you can‘t just put your costume on and start swim training. I mean, you can but you will injure your body more than you want especially if you set yourself a goal at doing swimming competition, a triathlon or like me an Ironman race. Just think how often you will do an arm movement at each trainings session, if you do it wrongly that can cause very quickly shoulder pain, as an example. Also, a person with a really good swimming technique (proper rhythm, long strokes, and constant kicking) will swim faster and use much much less energy than a person who just went several times to the pool for straight swims with no breaks or intervals. It is not possible to improve without focusing on technique and online videos are not enough to get all of the technical elements covered. Yes, there are some good videos on youtube but you need someone who coaches you / gives you feedback and who knows about swimming. An added bonus is being recorded so you can see for yourself how you look and the adjustments that need to be made. Watching someone is not the same as someone watching you and giving you direct and timely feedback.

As said swimming is a very technical sport and very individual. Every person has thier own technique as every one of us is unique. “We are not made for swimming!” a coach once said to me then he pointed his finger at me and said “But you need to cope and make the best out of it.” He is right and each person‘s body is unique so each person needs their own technique. Sure, there are some general elements but the deeper you go the more individual it gets. Youtube videos are good to get an idea but you need the interactions with someone who can help you with your own technique.

My suggestion, go to a pool and see what kind of coaches there are. Best thing is if there is a local swimming team. Watch how the coach coaches their team. Check when they correct one of his swimmers how she/he shows how they should do their stroke correctly, if it does look similar like on the video‘s on youtube and not like wild arm movements, then they in most cases know what they are doing. Ask them for a sessions or at least if they know who to ask and follow their advice.

If you then decide to go to the sessions with your coach listen to them and be (very) patient with yourself. Also If your coach lets you make a lot of kicks, trust me it is a very important element. I got asked a lot, why do I need to make so many kicks I want to do a triathlon and need to save energy in my legs. Well, you need to lay flat and be stable in the water, the kicks will give you stability and you can properly do drills to learn the arm technique. As soon as you master that go for it and move to a technique which is more focused on the arms and you will only kick to balance your body out in the water. And last but not least, never think as you had proper sessions now that you are done, still go back to your coach every now and then for a further session.

Hey Markus!
I know blogging on hive looks very much time-consuming...
But now is the beginning of it...
Once we have many followers/friends in here is gonna be way less time for us to blog.
Just imagine if you have just 1000 follows here and all of them have just around 200 Hive power as you have now.
You vote is worth 0.007

img_6081.png

That simple means all of them gonna create $7 for you everytime they click on you to like your posts...
Then you can post your morning selfie or just a cup of coffee ☕ and you gonna do very well.
My goal is to engage with people from my country and my followers in other sociamedias to help them discover hive.
But still now is a good time to accumulate some hive just by blogging or buying because is still very cheap...
I’ve gone over that with @sandymeyer a few times...
The real price of hive is more then $300 once it got discovered by the masses...
All we need on this phase is people in the platform.
Once we start reaching the mark over 100,000 active people then the hive will start exploding 🆙
So be patient...
And maybe once you feel comfortable around here you can start engaging with your following.

By simply giving them short intro for the platform you can always use your referral link on hive:

Registration just with email
https://ecency.com/signup?referral=markusmarthaler

Or
With telephone number.
https://peakd.com/register?ref=markusmarthaler

I’m always recommending registration via Ecency because that way you can make sure that your friends or followers gonna keep their password in the email but either way if they register via PeakD there’s a very big change for them not to save the password and lose that right after the registration.

Namaste 🙏

Dear @lilyane90,

Thank you for your comment! This is very helpful.

On the one hand you are saying I should be as active as on Instagram, like a post a day and on the other hand I should also try to get more ppl on here (need to think of that but I already told some of my friends and will continue), am I right with that?

Best,

Markus

Yes that’s correct ;)

You want to help all people around social media to monetize their time in there.
That’s possible only on Hive, once you have a big account in here you can create great value for your following group.
For example as you have noticed already you can easily create value to comments as well.
So that’s a win-win for the content creator and his followers.

Namaste 🙏

I think that those effortless posts should not get much rewards.

And how did you figured this out?

As I said:

About the price I just have an idea about crypto :)

By the way, I have more than 1200 followers, but most of them are inactive nowadays. They left the platform long months/years ago. I am here for more than 4 years (since 2017.05.17).

About the price I just have an idea about crypto :)

Maybe a bad idea. Hive will probably not be $300 USD. Why? Simply because when the price would go up, people are starting a massive selling, pushing the price back down again.

Please elaborate.

Or is it like in this joke with Chuck Norris and the water bekomes Markus when I jump in?

The joke is btw: ‚If Chuck Norris jumps into water, he doesn‘t get wet, the water gets Chuck Norris.‘

Hallo Markus, schöner Post👍
Lies mal die Posts von ryzeonline. Hier: https://peakd.com/@ryzeonline.
