Recently, I heard the news that the trainers of Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu, Eng Hian and Chafidz Yusuf, received a bonus of hundreds of millions of rupiah from the Djarum Foundation. This is a form of appreciation for their success in bringing their team to a gold medal in the women's doubles badminton at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Greysia / Apriyani won the highest podium at the Tokyo Olympics after defeating the Chinese pair Chen Qing Chen / Jia Yi Fan in the final match, last August 2. The Indonesian badminton women's doubles won 21-19 and 21-15.

Eng Hian is the head coach of the women's doubles of the Main Pelatnas PBSI, while Chafidz Yusuf is her assistant. Both are alumni of PB DJarum.

Eng Hian received a bonus Blibli voucher worth IDR 150 million and IDR 100 million for Chafidz. In addition, they also received a bonus each Polytron LED TV worth Rp 20 million. In total, the awards given to the two coaches reached IDR 290 million. Wow, that's a lot of friends.

"Winning a title at an event as big as the Olympics is not easy. This is a task as well as a challenge for coaches to be more persistent and tenacious in polishing Indonesian athletes," said Eng Hian at the award ceremony which was held online on Thursday 19/19 08/2021.

"This appreciation from the Djarum Foundation is an encouragement for us to better prepare the best seeds in the badminton world. I also learned a lot from the coaches when I was an athlete at PB Djarum, they always instilled a high mentality and fighting spirit in every performance," said bronze medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympics with Flandy Limpele in the men's doubles event.

Chafidz Yusuf said that the role of the coach was not only to formulate the game strategy of his foster children. More than that, the coach must also help maintain the athlete's mentality while competing.

A strong mentality will form a strong determination in dealing with difficult situations on the field. Greysia and Apriani's mentality then brought them to gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"Of course there is immeasurable gratitude and pride that my foster children have succeeded in achieving achievements in the Olympics. My biggest dream as a coach is of course to help them in winning medals that can bring the nation's name on the world stage," he said.

"I am grateful for the appreciation given by PB Djarum and feel grateful to continue to be part of the big family of PB Djarum until now."

Program Director of the Djarum Foundation's Sports Bakti Yoppy Rosimin said that PB Djarum's role was not limited to its athletes, but also its alumni who later had careers as coaches.

"The success of the Indonesian women's doubles sector in winning the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics certainly cannot be separated from the role of Eng Hian and Chafidz Yusuf as coaches," said Yoppy Rosimin, who is also the chairman of PB Djarum.

"The awarding of these two awards is a form of PB Djarum's gratitude and commitment to the players and alumni who became coaches and led Indonesian badminton to achieve world-class glory," he concluded.
