Derrimut Gym, largest gym in the Southern Hemisphere

It's been over 12 months since I've set foot into an official gym and I miss it, COVID ended here quite some time ago but I've still been hesitant to return due to the possibility of it returning. But I needed to get out of the house and have some normality back in my life. Part of my previous routine was training at the local gym with a few of the gym rats and ratettes who have been messaging me wondering when I'd be back. I have missed the gym banter, it is no way in any shape way or form PC. The slangs come from men and women equally and it is a whole different world and I understand not for everyone.

After my uni days I needed somewhere to train that had alot of equipment and alot of heavy duty training machines as I found alot of the Local smaller gyms didn't have what I needed and they were alot smaller with not much equipment. I ended up walking into Derrimut in Caroline Springs which also happens to be the Southern Hemispheres largest gym. 4 warehouses and double story filled with equipment. They upgraded all their equipment through COVID and provided a wonderful new experience for gym goers.

There are a total of 24 gyms across the country and their most recent upgrade has included sports and cross fit. The addition of a half basketball court, rock climbing walls, cross fit equipment, functional muscle training styles as well as stair cases appeal to a broader range of trainers. There are also inside running tracks and a cardiovascular warehouse filled with bikes, treadmills, steppers and the like.

They have branched out from your stereotypical gym with weights to a more social and professional training gym.

There's also a sauna that has been installed, I didn't take a front pic because it was occupied and a few naked people don't make good reading. Yes the suanas are separated between men and women. There are also personal trainers on site that will help you develop the perfect training routine tailored to your goals.

So how big is this place? Huge! Each warehouse set up as specialised equipment to focus certain body zones so you can spent a day in each zone without having to walk all over the place. There is also a free weights station for those who prefer free weights.

There is also a warehouse dedicated to machines that support training if you don't fancy free weight training and there is a broad range of equipment to keep you active and not stagnant. You can mix and match all kinds of exercises and never get board or tired if the same training routine. I've been training for close to a decade so I'm across most exercises but the personal trainers on site are always available to walk you through exercising so you don't have any injuries and you know what you're doing.

The gym itself is 24/7 for those not familiar it is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week and never shuts, except for during COVID. The basketball courts and rock climbing have been weekend attractions for many locals I'm told and you now need to make a booking as it is attracting alot of traffic.

How much is this beautiful facility? Well it is cheap as chips (for Aussie terms) an annual membership is current $399 including tax's which is cheap compared to other gyms which will charge you $700 - $1200 for less equipment and less on offer. Many require additional fees and charges.

Upstairs also comprises of a women's only gym for privacy for all the women that don't like to be mixed in with the men as it can be quite intimidating at times..

There are also spin classes and other body work out classes held Upstairs as well as competition training rooms for bookings which you can get a posing instructor to walk you through all the relevant stage poses if you're planning on competing in body building.

The gym in my older years has been a great mental health escape where I can head to and joke around and not care about the world. I haven't come not only because of COVID but because I spent a bit of money on a home gym and didn't want to waste that cash and make sure I got use out of it.

Are you an Aussie and know this place, what are your thoughts on it?

What about from where you're from, what are gyms like? Do you have anything like this?

Wow, that's serious value right there...

As for gyms in Ireland, i really couldn't tell you!! I gave up the gym when the kids came along. 5 a side soccer and golf are my exercise these days... Covid-19 means we've had months of neither though, so long walks with family or runs alone are my new temp outlet.

Thats good, I have found it hard in lockdown glad things are getting back to normal though for us here in Australia.

Sadly we are entering winter and I think it will be upon us again.
