Lockdown exercising with a side of training

So here we are, another lock down due to an outbreak. I was really looking forward to updating everyone on the new skills and training session for little miss. It was her last training session before school holidays and the club breaks for for two weeks.

But unfortunately, due to a returned traveller that was a positive case and then decided to literally travel the entire state and infect so many locations and people we've been plunged into another lock down.

The contract tracers listed so many places that the person travelled in the first few days of returning that this meme has been circulating around Facebook. So many of the outbreaks we've had have been from people who manage to travel so many places while visibly sick that it's almost laughable. How do they fit in the time?

Part of the restrictions are that we can't go further than 5kms of our homes and only for essential items, cars giving and 2hrs of exercise.

I really didn't want little miss forgetting the skills she's learned over the past four weeks so we incorporated soccer training in our walk. We decided that little miss wanted to walk to the ducks and feed them some bread and seeds. Off we went and we took the soccer ball with us.

The rules were pretty simple, we had to kick the ball the whole way and maintain control of it. Little Miss was up for the challenge and doing so ment there was a nice chocolate bar waiting for her at home when we got back.

With daylight savings ending we went for a walk after I had finished work and it was starting to get a little dark, apologies for the poor images as I use my phone camera which don't seem to be that good once the sun starts setting.

The exercise was harder than it seemed for most part ball control was good until little miss, naturally as all kids believe bigger is better and she decided she no longer wanted to kick her kids size ball but was ready to upgrade to mine 🤣

She did pretty will controlling it with a few moments of the ball getting away from us due to declines in the pavement. I sometimes forget that she is only 4 and she kept asking why the ball sometimes moves faster and other times goes backwards.

The training session broke out into a little bit of an education session on physics and gravity. I don't think she fully grasped the concept but she became really excited everytime a down hill section of our path would appear.

She'd often kick the ball really really hard to see how far she could get it to go. I have to admit I enjoy watching her kick the ball as I remember when I was a kid and try to play soccer I would always toe bash the ball. Not sure if that saying is the same in other countries but it's when you use your toes to kick the ball rather than the inside of your foot.

Little miss has grasped ball control and what part of her foot she needs to use. I remember it took me lots of games to learn how to kick, for her a matter of moments and it is resulting in her being a better soccer player than me.

Lil miss was quite tired by the time we got home mainly due to the last few hundred meters home we started kicking the ball as hard as we could and aiming for certain things. I thought this might help with her goal scoring technique, we weren't all that accurate but we had a lot of fun nonetheless.

Lockdown has only been extended by another 7 days and I'm hoping it remains that way with soccer resuming once the School holiday period is over.

I'm looking forward to sharing her progress on the under 7s women's team and watching her set the bar high.

Have a great week everyone!

Must be terrible for kids right now as lock downs are not normal. We have been having the same stuff since March last year with on and off restrictions. Honestly can't wait for this to end at some point so we can get on with out lives properly.

Yeah it is really hard for them and I'm starting to feel really bad about it. We also had a son that was born in lockdown at the start pretty much. July last year, his first birthday is coming up. An entire life in lockdown so far.

But we'll be through this soon.

Good to see that you are making the best of a bad situation. That sucks that just one person can screw things up so much.
