Semi retirement

Good evening sportstalk hope you're all having a wonderful night and enjoying the wonderful world of sports. Its been a lil while since I've popped a post in here so thought I'd pop past and say G'day.

I wanted to talk abit about semi retirement and what I mean is parenting, oh man how life changes once you have kids. I was and still am relatively active in life. But I was alot more active and into sports.

While I played footy and cricket my main enjoyment was running and my wife and I joined the Uni team where we could put our running to a good cause fund raising for local charities and community initiatives. It was a great way to get involved, stay fit and compete against others.

I still remember our first 5km fun together that was fun and then there were all the awesome inbetween events you can compete in to keep fit and push yourself throughout the year until the main comps came up.

Oh boy did having kids change it all, I finally got myself to 5km in 16minutes and I was ready to compete and continue to push myself.
The last race I ran was Run4Kids and I finished it in the 1hr 20s, nothing special for a 15km run but I was getting there.

Then our daughter came about and balancing work, Dadding and training became too much to balance. Trying to train when I was absolutely void of energy due to lack of sleep was hard.

I haven't picked it up again yet and don't think I could, I tried running again a few weeks ago (it's been just over a year since I have had a proper run) and I couldn't even get close to my previous times. Alot of it is due to carrying alot more weight.

But as you've seen I've been getting into bike riding, my best time for 10kms was 28minutes on a Mountain bike.

I'm looking into road bikes as I want to start pushing myself on the bike, I feel it's abit easier to do.

But for the parents out there and former runners or anyone that enjoys sports.

What did you find worked well to get you out of retirement?
