How sports enhances learning

The importance of sports and exercise cannot be overemphasized. First, sports helps us maintain good health and all round fitness. Also, sport has it merit in the aspect of learning, reading and understanding. Sport plays a vital role in the human body and it's enhances effective learning.

Little wonder, we often hear people say that all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. This is quite true as this statement has been proven in my life as a student and as a teacher.

As a student you discover that when you embark on a chain reading and studying without having a break, your brain seems to be over used this is why it is often advised to always rest a bit or exercise in sports when you have read and studied for a long period of time.

During exams period in my school, I usually prepare myself ahead of time before the exams time table is fixed. I read a lot because I do not want to fail and repeat writing exams because of any course.

As a result of that, most times I do have headache, a serious and severe one. And that's because I use to read a whole lot, and during those times, my brain fails to assimilate some of the things I read.

What I usually do is that I always pause my reading and go out for sports in the evening, I do run, dance, jump, play football, skip, and shake myself till I am tired.

It has been helping me a whole lot when times like that comes and this time around when I go back to reading, I flow very very well and assimilate all the necessary, important and crucial information I need.

Another scenario is that as a student teacher that I am, most times when I teach my students for a long time, the students lose concentration and they fail to assimilate what I teach them. When I ask them questions, they seem not to remember.

So what I usually do is to tell to stand up and jump, shake their bodies and run around the compound for 10 minutes before I continue. I noticed that it has been helping them and helping me as their teacher as well.

That is why there is always a period in school called Break time. This period helps assimilate information into a child's brain and make their brain rest and prepare for the next lesson.

So therefore sports enhances learning because asides pumping blood in our body system and making our system work actively as well as giving one energy to carry out activities.

It helps to teach kids various skills such as leadership, patience, tolerance, team efforts and social skills. Sports helps a child to keep fit, reduce fat and maintain weight.

Sports has a way of making one stay healthy and in shape. It also teaches life lessons such as teamwork, discipline, self-confidence, responsibility and accountability.

Sports brings people together and enhances communication as well as making a community unite in oneness, peace, harmony and unity. Sports helps one to deal with fear, pressure, failure and disappointment in life.

Sports also helps to ease stress and anxiety in a child. It makes them relax, worry less, deal with set backs, work harder and increase their energy.

So as a parent or teacher, always encourage your students, pupils and learners to engage themselves in sports as it will help them learn well, easier,faster and smarter.

Recess or break-time should always be observed in school especially when teaching children. It's true that all work and no play makes jack a dull boy.
