Football game and it's Intricacies

Football can otherwise be called soccer. In the game, there are eleven players in a team. The players kick the ball to each other while moving forward with the aim of scoring. A goal is scored by kicking the ball through the goal post of the opposing team. Soccer is played with the feet and the ball can touch any part of the body except the arms and hands. The goalkeeper is the only player permitted to use his/her hands. All the players are allocated specific positions of the football pitch to defend and attack from.

Facilities and Equipment for football

The basic facilities and equipment for football include: a round leather football, a pair of boots, contrasting team jerseys (the shirt, shorts and hose), padded jerseys and hand gloves, whistle, pen and recording book, the football field (pitch).

The Positions of the Players in the Field
The players work as a team to carry out their specific roles. The roles include keeping the goal, dribbling the opponents in order to score. A team is made up of eleven players and three substitutes.

Basic Football Rules and regulations
A player commits a foul if he/she:

  • Touches the ball with his/her hand or arm
  • Falls, attempt to fall or jumps at an opponent
  • Strikes, kicks or aims to kick an opponent
  • Hold or pushes an opponent

When the ball is in play, only the goalkeeper is allowed to touch the ball with his/her hands in the goal area

The official duration of a football match is 90 minutes of 45 minutes for each half, with 10 minutes rest at half time

Players must change sides in the game with their opponents after 45 minutes of play

A goal is scored when the ball is legally played across the goal line and between the goalposts and under the crossbar.

The team that scores the higher number of goals is the winner of the game

During play, the referee’s decision shall be final

Officials of Football game and their Duties
Referee: This official controls the conduct of the game from the beginning to the end. He signals the end playing time and controls the movement of the players in the field. He warns a player with a yellow card and disqualifies with a red card.

Assistant Referees: These are two officials who assists the referee. They give signs to him if a ball is played out of court, in case of foul plays, off-side, throw-in, etc. they are sometimes called linesmen. Each stands on either side of the field.

Match Commissioner: He helps each team to replace wounded or tired players. He takes the place of the referee if the referee cannot officiate any longer.
