The status of Europe's best young player falls on Erling Braut Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund forward won the 2020 Golden Boy Award. Tuttosport, the Italian sports media that initiated the award, named Haaland the winner of the 2020 Golden Boy Award. The Norwegian striker outperformed many other top young players. These included his Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho, then Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies, Barcelona striker Ansu Fati and Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood.

The 2020 Golden Boy Award looks at the performance of young players under the age of 21 who play in Europe's top five leagues, namely England, Italy, Spain, France and Germany. And Haaland shines the most. Throughout the 2019/2020 season, Haaland scored 44 goals. In detail, he scored 28 goals at RB Salzburg and 16 goals when he moved to Dortmund in the winter of 2019. This season, Haaland has also scored 11 goals in 11 appearances. Haaland will officially be presented with the Golden Boy Award in Turin, Italy, on December 14, 2020.
