La XIX edición de la Copa Del Mundo se celebró en Sudáfrica después de que este país le ganara la candidatura a Egipto y Marruecos, fue la primera vez (y única hasta ahora) que el torneo se celebraba en suelo Africano y este mantuvo el formato actual de competición a dos rondas, una de fase de grupos y otra de eliminación directa. 10 estadios fueron seleccionados para su uso durante la copa, de los cuales 5 fueron construidos antes del mundial, Sudáfrica hizo una inversión bastante alta para estar acorde a los requisitos de la FIFA. Corea del norte, Honduras, Nueva Zelanda, Argelia, Grecia y Chile volvían después de bastantes años de ausencia y Eslovaquia y Serbia acudían a su primera cita como países independizados. Casi 2 millones de entradas se vendieron para asistir a los 64 partidos del mundial, y en su fase de clasificación participaron 204 naciones de las 208 inscritas en la FIFA. Esto se venia gestando desde el año 1980 cuando nació la idea de celebrar un mundial en África, en 2002 hubo un precedente pues la copa se celebró por primera vez fuera de Asia o América, en 2001 se agregó una regla de rotación de continentes para la celebración de la copa por lo que solo países africanos podían optar al mundial de 2010 y Sudáfrica ganó en la votación, en gran parte debido al soporte que le dio Nelson Mandela a la candidatura, en 2015 tras el escándalo de fraude en la FIFA, salieron a la luz ciertos documentos que garantizaban a Marruecos como el ganador de la votación, pero Sudáfrica hizo sobornos para ser elegido como el organizador.
The XIX edition of the World Cup was held in South Africa after this country won the bid against Egypt and Morocco, it was the first time (and so far the only one) that the tournament was held on African soil and it maintained the current format of a two-round competition, one group stage and one knockout stage. 10 stadiums were selected for use during the Cup, 5 of which were built prior to the World Cup, South Africa invested heavily to meet FIFA requirements. North Korea, Honduras, New Zealand, Algeria, Greece and Chile returned after many years of absence and Slovakia and Serbia attended their first World Cup as independent countries. Nearly 2 million tickets were sold to attend the 64 World Cup matches, and 204 nations out of the 208 registered with FIFA participated in the qualifying phase. This had been in the making since 1980 when the idea of holding a World Cup in Africa was born, in 2002 there was a precedent as the Cup was held for the first time outside Asia or America, in 2001 a continent rotation rule was added for holding the Cup so that only African countries were eligible for the 2010 World Cup and South Africa won in the vote, in large part due to the support given to the bid by Nelson Mandela, in 2015 after the FIFA fraud scandal, certain documents came to light that guaranteed Morocco as the winner of the vote, but South Africa made bribes to be chosen as the organizer. However, this did not change anything that happened in South Africa, nor did it have any major repercussions, except for the dismissal of the FIFA directors headed by Blatter.

Mas de 1000 millones de dolares fueron destinados a la construcción y remodelacion de los estadios y todo lo necesario para realizar el torneo y aunque varias veces se amagó con un posible cambio de sede, el presidente de la FIFA mantuvo u postura y el torneo se jugó en el país pese a que las obras fueron terminadas en lo justo, se eligieron 10 estadios, el mayor de ellos, el Soccer City de Johannesburgo con capacidad para 94.000 aficionados, fue elegido como sede de la final de ese mundial. Lo 32 participantes fueron sorteados en 8 grupos el 4 de diciembre del año 2009. El 11 de Junio de 2010 inició el torneo con el partido inaugural entre Sudáfrica y México.
More than 1 billion dollars were allocated to the construction and remodeling of the stadiums and everything necessary to hold the tournament and although several times it was threatened with a possible change of venue, the FIFA president maintained his word and the tournament was played in the country despite the fact that the works were just finished, 10 stadiums were chosen, the largest of them, the Soccer City in Johannesburg with capacity for 94,000 fans, was chosen to host the final of the Cup. The 32 participants were drawn into 8 groups on December 4, 2009. The tournament kicked off on June 11, 2010 with the match between South Africa and Mexico.

Grupo A
En el grupo A quedaron agrupadas las ya mencionadas selecciones de Sudafrica y Mexico, junto a Uruguay y Francia, Sudafrica se convirtió en el primer anfitrión que se quedaba fuera en primera ronda en una copa del mundo mientras que Francia fue el primer gran fracaso, al terminar ultima en este grupo con tan solo 1 punto tras ser finalista en la edición del 2006. Diego Forlan fue el mas destacado del grupo marcando dos goles y siendo el estandarte de la selección uruguaya, México sorprendió con su buen juego y para el recuerdo quedará siempre el gol de Tshabalala, el primer gol de este mundial y el ensordecedor ruido de las vuvuzelas sudafricanas en esa celebración.
Group A
In group A were grouped the aforementioned teams of South Africa and Mexico, along with Uruguay and France, South Africa became the first host to be left out in the first round in a World Cup while the France was the first major failure, finishing last in this group with only 1 point after being a finalist in the 2006 edition. Diego Forlan was the most outstanding player of the group, scoring two goals and being the standard bearer of the Uruguayan team, Mexico surprised with its good play and Tshabalala's goal, the first goal of this World Cup against mexico and the deafening noise of the South African vuvuzelas in that celebrations will always be remembered.
Grupo B
Maradona y Argentina lideraron el grupo B donde Higuain brilló con sus goles y donde solo recibieron 1 gol, Corea del Norte acompaño a los sudamericanos con una ventaja de 1 punto sobre Grecia, un equipo que mostraba buenas cosas en la cancha pero los resultados no le acompañaron y que cayó eliminada junto a Nigeria, equipo que no pudo ganar ni un solo partido y solo marcó 3 goles.
Group B
Maradona and Argentina led group B where Higuain shined with his goals and where they only conceded 1 goal, North Korea accompanied the South Americans with a 1 point advantage over Greece, a team that showed good things on the field but the results did not accompany them and they were eliminated along with Nigeria, a team that could not win a single game and only scored 3 goals.
Grupo C
Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Eslovenia y Argelia disputaron un entretenido grupo C que estuvo marcado por la ausencia de Beckham y Ferdinand, por lesiones. Estados Unidos terminó líder al empatar en puntos con Inglaterra pero con mejor diferencia de goles, a los ingleses les costó bastante conseguir la clasificación, Eslovenia tuvo oportunidades hasta el ultimo minuto y Argelia dio pelea siempre que pudo. Uno de los grupos mas entretenidos de este mundial.
Group C
The United States, England, Slovenia and Algeria played an entertaining Group C that was marked by the absence of Beckham and Ferdinand due to injuries. The United States finished first, tied on points with England but with a better goal difference, the English had a hard time qualifying, Slovenia had chances until the last minute against England and Algeria put up a fight whenever they could but they can't make a difference. One of the most entertaining groups of this World Cup.
Grupo D
Alemania, Australia, Ghana y Serbia compitieron en el grupo D. Alemania venia rejuvenecido y en su primer partido hizo un enorme papel pero se complicó en la segunda y tercera jornada, igual terminaron como lideres del grupo, acompañados por Ghana que hizo un gran papel no solo en el grupo si no en toda la copa. Australia tambien hizo buen papel pero se quedó fuera por la diferencia de goles, Serbia venció a Alemania pero no hizo nada mas y quedó eliminado.
Group D
Germany, Australia, Ghana and Serbia competed in group D. Germany came rejuvenated with a new players roster and in their first match did a great job but it got complicated in the second and third matchday, but they still finished as group leaders, accompanied by Ghana who did a great job not only in the group but in the whole Cup. Australia also did well but was left out because of the goal difference, Serbia beat Germany but did nothing else and was eliminated.
Grupo E
El grupo E fue dominado por Holanda que ganó sus tres partidos con un juego muy directo pero poco vistoso, algo que le valió bastantes criticas, Keisuke Honda fue la estrella de una selección de Japón que gustó mucho y que clasifico como segunda de grupo, mientras que Dinamarca lo intentó pero no lo logró y Camerún fue una decepción tras convertirse en el primero de dos equipos que no lograron obtener puntos en la fase de grupos.
Group E
Group E was dominated by the Netherlands, who won their three matches with a very direct but not very showy game, something that earned them a lot of criticism, Keisuke Honda was the star of a Japan team that was very well liked and qualified as second in the group, while Denmark tried but failed and Cameroon was a disappointment after becoming the first of two teams that failed to get points in the group stage of the world cup.
Grupo F
Otra decepción se vio en el grupo F, donde el ultimo campeón, Italia, quedo ultimo de grupo con solo 1 punto al obtener un empate y 2 derrotas. Paraguay terminó primero de este grupo y Eslovaquia se metió como segundo tras vencer a Italia en un partidazo por 3-2 en la ultima jornada, Nueva Zelanda no tuvo lo suficiente y también cayó eliminado con un punto mas que los italianos.
Group F
Another disappointment was seen in group F, where the last champion, Italy, finished last in the group with only 1 point after a draw and 2 defeats. Paraguay finished first in this group with a excellent game on the pitch, and Slovakia came in second after beating Italy 3-2 in a great match on the last day, New Zealand did not have enough and was also eliminated with one point more than the Italians.
Grupo G
Brasil no llevó a Sudáfrica una selección tan temible como la que viajó a Alemania pero aun así terminó como líder del grupo G con dos victorias y un empate ante Portugal, que destrozó a Corea del Norte metiendole un 7-0, los asiáticos fueron la peor selección del mundial y terminaron en cuarta posición sin puntos y con una diferencia de goles de -11 y en el tercer lugar quedó Costa de Marfil, que lo intentó pero simplemente no pudo contra los lusos y los brasileños.
Group G
Brazil did not bring to South Africa a team as fearsome as the one that traveled to Germany they did not have it's stars in the team but but still finished as the leader of group G with two wins and a draw against Portugal, who destroyed North Korea by beating them 7-0, the Asians were the worst team of the World Cup and finished in fourth place with no points and a goal difference of -11 and in third place was Ivory Coast, who tried but simply could not beat the Lusitanians and the Brazilians.
Grupo H
España llegaba como la favorita al titulo tras ganar la Eurocopa en 2008 pero se encontró un grupo bastante difícil en el juego, empezó perdiendo con Suiza, vencieron a Chile envueltos en polémica para ambos lados y le ganó a Honduras por 2-0, David Villa fue el atacante mas destacado de la primera fase en todo el mundial. Chile se metió segundo de grupo por diferencia de goles y Suiza quedó tercero, mientras que Honduras participó con gallardía.
Group H
Spain arrived as the favorite for the title after winning the Euro 2008 and showing a very colorful and effective game but found a very difficult group, they started losing to Switzerland, defeated Chile wrapped in controversy for both sides and beat Honduras 2-0, David Villa was the most outstanding striker of the first phase in the whole World Cup. Chile came in second in the group on goal difference and Switzerland came in third, while Honduras participated gallantly.

Octavos de final.
El sorteo emparejó a 4 equipos de América a enfrentarse entre ellos, lo mismo para 4 equipos europeos, el primer partido de Octavos de final fue entre Uruguay y Corea del Sur, aquí empezaron los verdaderos partidazos, Corea sorprendió a Uruguay pero Luis Suarez eliminó a los asiáticos con un doblete. Estados Unidos y Ghana tuvieron un partidazo que acabó 1-2 en el tiempo extra a favor de los africanos, Alemania e Inglaterra jugaron un partido muy extraño pues estuvo muy igualado a pesar de que terminó en 4-1, Argentina venció a México que siguió su maldición del quinto partido en mundiales, Holanda sufrió contra una muy buena selección de Eslovaquia y ganó por 2-1, Brasil destrozó a Chile por 3-0 y Paraguay venció a Japón en penales por 5-3 mientras que España venció a la Portugal de Cristiano Ronaldo con un gol de David Villa.
Round of 16.
The draw paired 4 teams from America to face each other, the same for 4 European teams, the first match of the Round of 16 was between Uruguay and South Korea, here began the real great games, Korea surprised Uruguay but Luis Suarez eliminated the Asians with a double goal. The United States and Ghana had a great match that ended 1-2 in the 3rd minute of extra time in favor of the Africans, Germany and England played a very strange match as it was very close even though it ended 4-1 for Germany, Argentina defeated Mexico who continued their curse of the fifth match in World Cups, Holland suffered against a very good Slovakia team and won 2-1, Brazil destroyed Chile 3-0 and Paraguay defeated Japan in penalties 5-3 while Spain defeated Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal team with a great individual play it's ended in a goal by David Villa.

Cuartos de Final.
Solo 8 selecciones quedaban de las 32 que iniciaron el mundial, esta vez todos los equipos enfrentados eran de continentes diferentes y todos pintaban para ser unos partidos espectaculares y no defraudaron a nadie.
Uruguay vs Ghana.
Sudamericanos y Africanos abrieron los cuartos de final con un partido de infarto, Muntari adelantó a Ghana antes del descanso y Uruguay empató con un golazo de Forlan en el minuto 55, el partido terminó 1-1 y en el ultimo minuto del tiempo añadido Luis Suarez sacó un remate en la linea de gol con la mano, lo que le costó la expulsión y ademas un penalti a favor de Ghana, penal que seria fallado por Gyan y que mandaría el partido a la definición por penales, donde Uruguay saldría ganador por 5-3.
Holanda vs Brasil.
Holandeses y Brasileños jugaron un partido que pintaba a ser muy reñido y con goles, Robinho adelantó a Brasil apenas a los diez minutos de juego, pero en la segunda mitad los sudamericanos cometieron dos errores defensivos que le costaron el partido, Sneijder marcó dos goles y una expulsión a Felipe Melo (que tuvo complicidad en uno de los goles de Holanda) sentenciaron a Brasil, que quedó eliminada y así Holanda obtuvo su pase a semifinales.
Argentina vs Alemania.
Ambos equipos habían mostrado un buen nivel antes de llegar a este partido y Argentina tenia a Messi, pero lo que se vio en el campo fue una paliza brutal de parte de los europeos que ganaron por 4-0 a una Argentina que parecía que no había entrado a jugar el partido. Dos goles de Klose, Muller y Friedrich acabaron con los sueños de Argentina en este mundial en el que habían juntado a los dos máximos jugadores de su historia pero que aun así no pudieron con Alemania.
Paraguay vs España.
España tenia una oportunidad de oro de pasar por primera vez a semifinales contra un Paraguay que nadie sabia como habían llegado tan lejos, pero el partido estuvo muy reñido pues Paraguay supo desactivar el juego de toque practicado por los españoles, ambos equipos se jugaban su primer pase a semifinales, hubo un gol mal anulado a Valdes y luego un penal para cada equipo, ambos fallados, en el minuto 83 Villa marcó el gol del triunfo y con sufrimiento España se clasificó a la siguiente fase.
Quarterfinals.
Only 8 teams were left out of the 32 that started the World Cup, this time all the teams faced were from different continents and they all looked to be spectacular matches and they did not disappoint anyone.
Uruguay vs Ghana.
South Americans and Africans opened the quarterfinals with a thrilling match, Muntari gave Ghana the lead before the break and Uruguay tied with a great goal by Forlan in the 55th minute, the match ended 1-1 and in the last minute of added time Luis Suarez took a shot on the goal line with his hand, which cost him the expulsion and also a penalty in favor of Ghana, penalty that would be missed by Gyan and that would send the match to the penalty shootout, where Uruguay would win by 5-3.
Netherlands vs Brazil.

Argentina vs Germany.
Both teams had shown a good level before coming to this match and Argentina had Messi, but what was seen on the field was a brutal beating by the Europeans who won 4-0 to an Argentina that seemed not to have entered to play the game. Two goals by Klose, Muller and Friedrich put an end to Argentina's dreams in this World Cup in which they had brought together the two best players, in their history, Messi and Maradona as coach, but still could not beat Germany.
Paraguay vs Spain.
Spain had a golden opportunity to pass for the first time to the semifinals against a Paraguay that nobody knew how they had gotten so far, but the match was very close because Paraguay knew how to deactivate the touch game practiced by the Spanish, both teams were playing their first pass to the semifinals, there was a goal wrongly disallowed to Valdes and then a penalty for each team, both missed, in the 83rd minute Villa scored the winning goal and with suffering Spain qualified to the next phase.

Uruguay vs Holanda.
El sorteo emparejó a Holanda con Uruguay, que no contó con Suarez por su expulsión ante Ghana, el partido se abrió en el minuto 18 cuando van Bronckhorst marcó un golazo desde fuera del área, y en el 41 Forlan hizo lo mismo para empatar, Sneijder en el 70 y Robben en el 73 pusieron por encima a Holanda y aunque Alvaro Pereira marcó el 2-3, ya no había tiempo para mas y Holanda se clasificó a la final del mundial.
Uruguay vs Netherlands.
The draw paired the Netherlands with Uruguay, who were without Suarez due to his expulsion against Ghana, the match opened in the 18th minute when van Bronckhorst scored a great goal, and in the 41st minute Forlan did the same to tie, Sneijder in the 70th minute and Robben in the 73rd minute put the Netherlands ahead and although Alvaro Pereira scored the 2-3, there was no time for more, Uruguay wa eliminated and and the Netherlands wins this game and qualified for the World Cup final.
España vs Alemania.
Españoles y alemanes tuvieron un vibrante partido que fue muy parejo a pesar de que los españoles parecieron dominar la cancha, Pedro ingresó como titular y se convirtió en una pesadilla para la defensa alemana pero aun así no llegaban los goles, hasta que en el minuto 73 Carles Puyol marcó el gol mas importante de su carrera tras un centro de Xavi, dándole el pase a la final a su país.
Spain vs Germany.
The Spanish and Germans had a vibrant match that was very even despite the fact that the Spanish seemed to dominate the field, Pedro entered as a starter and became a nightmare for the German defense but still the goals were not coming, until in the 73rd minute Carles Puyol scored the most important goal of his career after a cross from Xavi, giving the pass to the final to his country.

Sin importar quien ganara, se haría historia pues el campeón seria inedito, Alemania venció a Uruguay por el tercer lugar y solo faltaba el partido final, ambos equipos alinearon a su 11 de gala y el partido inició, España siguió fiel a su estilo de pases y Holanda salió a jugar con un exceso de salvajismo que se vio sobretodo en los primeros minutos, Holanda terminó el partido con 8 amonestados y un expulsado, en el minuto 28 Nigel de Jong le dio una criminal patada en el pecho a Xabi Alonso que debió ser roja directa pero el arbitro Howard Webb solo sacó amarilla, España tuvo hasta tres oportunidades claras en los primeros diez minutos pero los holandeses a base de patadas y suerte evitaron la caída de su arco. En el segundo tiempo Robben tuvo la ocasión mas clara del partido que Casillas desvió de manera épica con un tobillo, siguieron pasando los minutos y el partido acabó en un 0-0, iniciando la prorroga Fabregas tuvo otra ocasión clara pero Stekelemburg se lució, España atacaba con todo y Holanda se refugiaba esperando los penales, Heitinga fue expulsado en el minuto 108 por doble amarilla y eso abrió la cancha y favoreció al dominio español, 8 minutos mas tarde los españoles se armaron una jugada entre Fabregas, Torres e Iniesta, que acabo con un pase espectacular a los pies de este que definió cruzado y dejo sin opciones a Stekelemburg, Holanda ya se había replegado completamente y prácticamente no tenia opciones para atacar así que no sucedió nada mas que otras amonestaciones, pero eso no cambió el resultado y España obtenía así su primer y único titulo mundial hasta ahora.

Algunas curiosidades que dejo este mundial, es que fue la primera vez que un jugador del equipo campeón anterior traía el trofeo, siendo Fabio Cannavaro el encargado de hacerlo, ademas fue la final de mundial con mas amonestaciones de la historia, con 14 (9 para Holanda y 5 para España), España fue el campeón con menos goles anotados, con 8, y también fue el primer equipo Europeo que ganaba un mundial fuera de su continente, algo que antes solo había logrado Brasil, fue el evento deportivo mas visto de su historia en ese momento, con mas de 760 millones de personas, y ademas, desde el mundial del año 78, no se daba una final inedita como se dio en este. El balón de oro del mundial se lo llevó Diego Forlan, el mejor portero fue para Iker Casillas y el mejor jugador joven se lo llevó Thomas Muller, mientras que la campeona, España, se llevo el premio Fayr Play. Muller, Villa, Sneijder y Forlan compartieron la bota de oro, con 5 goles cada uno, pero el trofeo se le otorgó a Muller por estadísticas de la FIFA, y el gol de Forlan contra Alemania por el tercer lugar fue elegido como el mejor del torneo, algo que personalmente no comparto a pesar de que fue un golazo, pero a mi parecer hubieron otros mejores, incluido uno del propio Forlan en fase de grupos.
