Denis Law, the greatest exponent of the ex's law.

The ex's law does not forgive... a "prophecy" that is always fulfilled... or at least that is what is said. These unwritten laws have always haunted the world of football... the famous: 2 headers in the area, it is a goal... or also: the worst score to be winning is 2-0, also the saying that says: the team that wins all the rebounds wins the game... and others, without a doubt, the former's law is one of the most famous and demonstrable. The stories tell that a player who changes teams, always ends up scoring a penalty goal for his former team... If it is true or not, let the statistics say it, but without a doubt, one of the many times that this law was fulfilled, it will be eternally remembered by all who lived it or who saw it in posterity. The one lived by the soccer player Denis Law.

In 1956, the coach Andy Beattie from Hudersfield made him debut when he was just 16 years old, he saw in him something that no one else saw, that thin young man who even had malnutrition, because he lived in a very humble environment, the son of a fisherman and with 5 brothers he became a goal scoring machine, which made him stay for four seasons at the club, until Manchester City bought his card, with 20 years and in exchange for 50,000 pounds he arrived at the City and did not last longer than the season, as it was Loaned to Torino, there he lived a dual era, enchanted with the atmosphere and the Italian lifestyle but aggravated by the harsh style of play of the Italian league and its ''catenaccio'' which was in its heyday, that made him return to England, thus signing with Manchester United.

Denis Law arrived at Manchester United in 1962, becoming -by then- the most expensive signing in the English league. 115,000 lbs. He scored a goal on his debut, against Wes Brown. Success came to Denis playing for United, in 1965 he won the Ballon d'Or and led United to win their first league title since the plane crash in Munich. He was the top scorer in the league and formed the famous "Holy Trinity" together with Bobby Charlton and George Best, undoubtedly one of the best 11 that United had in its history, and precisely speaking of 11, it was the amount of years that Law played at Manchester United. The footballing zenith of the team came in the 1967-1968 season when they won their first European Cup (UCL). Law's role was fundamental, although due to injury he missed the semifinal and final of that tournament.

In 1973, at the age of 33, United decided not to renew his contract, and the player did not feel that his time to retire had come, so he was released and decided to sign a contract with "the front man": Manchester City. And this is where the central theme of this post comes into play. Perhaps it was karma or simply bad management, the point is that, after Law's departure in the 1973-74 season, the Red Devils plunged into one of their worst seasons, they reached the last day of that league with a need imperious to get the 3 points not to descend, and they had to play against nothing more and nothing less than Law's new team. Manchester City.

In the last minutes of the game, a low center to the small area found Denis, who put it in the goal of his former team with a beautiful cue, a goal that meant the victory of Manchester City and therefore, United's express ticket to the second division. Denis Law had just scored a goal, but it seemed that he had done it at his own goal and had lost the final of a World Cup with that own goal. The forward did not celebrate the goal under any gesture and only walked, slowly, with his head bowed to the central circle, then gestating that unforgettable image for all who have seen it, that moment in which Denis Law scored a goal that he sent to his former team to the second division, and then returned to the service position, full of indignation and sadness.

The footballer would end up retiring that same year, at the end of the season, his last goal being one of the best of his career and very surely, the one that he had least wishes to have scored.
