What unleashes the double standards among the major European leagues?

Source of the background

This is a translation from my original post, you can find it here. In the same way, I decided to add more content taking into account recent events that have happened since the day I published the original until today, English is not my native language and I am using a text translator, I apologize for any grammatical failure that may occur.

For quite some time I have heard premises that go hand in hand with the results that occur in football in the European leagues and that end up being opinions very mired in double standards, and today I want to make an analysis according to that, Taking the English league and the Spanish league as an example, since in my opinion, they are the right ones to explain my theory. So, welcome to a new post, let's get started.

Competitive league or double standards?

For quite some time now I have been hearing opinions about the Premier League being the best league in the world -and for me it is- and why? the answer is always the same: it is the most competitive. This is not a secret, and it happens for a reason, the rights are shared equally.

That translates into higher income for the smaller teams and that is why we are going to find a more competitive league, because even the smallest teams have a decent budget to build and distribute their squads. Which does not happen in Spain, for example.

But that is the subject of another debate. The point here arises from the opinions crossed regarding this:

Source from Google sports results

On Saturday 17-10-2020, both Barcelona and Real Madrid lost their matches against Getafe and Cadiz respectively. What were the comments? The Spanish league is in decline, and Madrid and Barcelona have no level to compete, they blame the referees for everything, the league is a sham. Now, when in the Premier it happens that Aston villa scores seven goals against Liverpool or Leicester destroys City, what are the comments? The Premier is the best league in the world, anyone can beat anyone, this is real football.

I am not against the premise of the English league and I want to emphasize that, it is a spectacle to see it, but why is it bad in Spain what is good in England? Why is it that when Real Madrid loses one begins to criticize and even talk about the end of the cycle, and when Liverpool, the defending champion of the title, comes the team that finished in 17th position last season and scores seven goals, do you talk about the best league in the world? That, dear readers, is called double standards, and celebrating it, admiring it, is something very wrong.

Thinking about the background of all this is enough to recognize the error, and it is that the society that makes life in the beautiful game, mostly has a very wrong concept, does Getafe have less merit for beating Barcelona than Leicester for achieving victory path against City just because they are different leagues? The answer is a definit no. Even if the context is analyzed, it is the opposite, more merit Getafe has for achieving a victory against the giant Blaugrana because it has a much smaller budget than the Cule team, less than Leicester and not to mention Manchester City, if the comparison fits. It is also unfair to think this way, but that is the reality.

Football must and must be recognized for its magic, and recognition must be given to those who deserve it, the fact that Madrid fell to Cadiz shows that there is competitiveness in the Spanish league, as well as the fact that Liverpool lost to Aston Villa tells us that even the giants fall when they don't go out onto the pitch with a clear goal. You have to play the games and you have to win them, whatever league it is, and whatever team it is, and you have to enjoy that in the right way.

And most importantly, we must avoid expressing opinions based on nothing, we are in a time where accessing data is as easy as pressing a couple of keys, let's do it, read a little more, see more games, analyze better and give points of subjective view and not based only on the color of our jersey, and surely we will begin to fully enjoy football for what it is, the most beautiful sport of all.

And to end with a subjective conclusion regarding this issue, it has always seemed wrong and even hypocritical to talk about normalizing in one competition what is condemned in another, by the end of the season it is almost certain that Getafe, Cadiz, Aston Villa and Leicester are going to finish lower in qualification than Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool or Manchester City in their respective leagues, so what difference does a result make? there are many and better arguments to show that a league like the Premier is better than the BBVA league, and not only for these two, I think that each competition has its own virtues and defects that make them attractive or not, and at the end of all Entering into a debate about which one is better doesn't make any sense, why sit down and watch a single competition when you can enjoy them all? Let's be good fans and enjoy soccer as the great sport that it is.

I invite you to leave your opinion on this in the comments and open a healthy debate if you have a different idea. Thank you very much for your attention, until a next post, greetings.

Upsets can happen in any sport. We saw Villa beat Liverpool scoring with everything including deflections. Two weeks before that we saw United beat Brighton after Brighton hit the goalposts 5 times.

In the Premier League it is getting harder and harder as the likes of Villa are spending money on new players. $150 million last season and another $50 or $60 million this season and that is down mainly to the tv revenue. The bottom team still earns over $100 million so whoever stays up should have funds to get better and stronger each season. This season it is obvious who never spent money as they are at the bottom of the table.

I think in the Spanish La Liga most of the money is channeled to the top 3 clubs. The gap will always exist and possibly why there are not that many shock results.

Exactly, that's is the fully argument of that, the real why's the premier known as the best league of the world, regardless of its results and that is precisely why I think that comparing it in that sense with the bbva league, for example, is a mistake, thank you very much for sharing your opinion.
