Brighton hold champions Liverpool to a 1-1 draw

Liverpool were hosted by Brighton at the annex stadium in the premier league's first game of the weekend and the champions failed to get all three points as they continue to push for a second title in two years.

After being dominant in the early stages of the game, Maupay sliced the Liverpool defense with a clean through ball to his strike partner who failed to convert. Liverpool survived several missed opportunities by the home side including a penalty which Maupay missed before Salah converted for Liverpool only to be ruled offside.

Liverpool went in front in the second half thanks to a very clinical finish from Diogo Jota after some very nice interchange of passing between Salah and Firmino.

Liverpool thought they had gotten a second after substitute Sadio Mane headed from a free kick only yo be ruled offside by VAR again.

At the closing stages of the game, the host were awarded another penalty after a VAR review showed Robertson had kicked Welbeck in the eighteen yard box hile trying to clear his lines.

Pascal Grobbs took the spot kick and converted. Liverpool were forced to share the spoils at the annex stadium.
