Lionel messi for over a decade has been doing the magic, week in week out, season in season out for Barcelona i mean the only football club he has played professionally for.
Even at 33 hes still not slowing down, but one certain thing is that age will catch up with him, even if he wants to continue. He wasnt the same player he was some few year years ago.

  • Messi is a phenomenal player, infact i call him a player in a lifetime, a genius also his records are absolutely magnificent, after making his debut in 2004/05 for Barcelona senior team, he never looked back then went ahead to make over 700 appearances scoring massive record goals just over 644. This record is inhumane. Won every trophy in club football for Barcelona, over and over, was named the best player by FIFA also by UEFA for several times.
Score goals for fun, holds the record for laliga highest goal scorer, and has claimed highest goal scorer award for 7 season

who will replace messi at Barcelona?

I've seen him missed games for Barcelona, prolly due to injury or suspension and have seen barca struggle without messi. Save to say that messi remains the engine that drives barca.
So what happens if messi finally bids his camp nou farewell, am i being overthinking here, does barca have a plan yet?

Over the years i've seen barca made some signings, some promising young players, some established players just to take off the weight on messi's shoulder, some to study under messi and possibly to pickup from wherever messi stops but unfortunately it has not work out so far, messi who successfully took over from ronaldinho and eto'o interms of goal scoring and performance but
Thiery henry, zlatan Ibrahimovich, coutinho, griezmann, dembele the list go on have been in barca shirt, some fizzle out and some are still struggling to perform.
Youngsters like Ansu fati, pedri have all shown glimpse of brilliance but am still not convinced they can fit into the boot of leo messi.

I think barca board are not prepared for this reality, no wonder when messi requested for a transfer last summer they did not oblige and promise to offer him anything he wants just to keep. But day after day, year after year, messi is getting closer to that old age and retirement, are they still not going to replace him? Will they continue to keep a player against his will?

I mean their rival real madrid took the courage to let Cristiano ronaldo leave and they continue where they left.

I think Barca is going to suffer post messi era, they will have to spend big to find a replacement, and the time it will take them to settle in is another concern.
I believe Players like kylian mbape, erling haaland, lautaro Martinez will be a better fit but its still the early days.
