What a moment for England, against all odds. England hosted Germany at the Wembley stadium and despite both teams not hitting the full stride yet in the tournament, no one knew what to expect. I didn't know which England would turn up and most people thought due to the resilience of the Germans, they might edge it but England showed strength and character while Maguire gave a man of the match display on the day.

It was a game with few chances despite so many attacking intents. Germany dominated the early exchanges before Sterling attempted a beautiful curling long-range effort that Manuel Neuer had to push for a corner kick. The resulting corner kick was matched by Maguire but he had no placement on the ball and the goalkeeper saved it.

Germany produced a wonderful scoring opportunity when the lively Havertz found Werner with a lovely through ball. Werner raced on goal and Pickford rushed out to narrow the angle and saved the effort.

Just before the halftime whistle went, England had another moment when Thomas Muller blocked off Sterling and the ball managed to find Harry Kane who took a touch too heavy to knock the ball farther from him while being close to the goal.

The second half restarted and Havertz attempted a brilliant volley shot which took the expertise of Pickford and his best, to push over the bar. The real moment of magic came when England combined beautifully to register the first goal of the game in the 75th minute.

Sterling held on to the ball and with sheer determination, he drove in and found Kane who in turn found Grealish. Grealish nudged the ball into the path of Shaw and his lovely ball in was low and precise enough for Sterling to poke home.

6 minutes after, Germany had a moment of their own and they should have scored. Thomas Muller was the culprit on the day as he was sent clear on goal. Leaving defenders on his trail, he was one on one with the goalkeeper. He managed to beat the goalkeeper and he also beat the post as the ball agonizingly went out of play. It was a squandered chance and a shocking moment for Muller who was yet to register a goal in Euro 2020.

England finished off the game and eroded any thought of a comeback in the 86th minute when Luke Shaw won the ball and found Grealish. Jack Grealish provided a lovely ball in, to Harry Kane to register his first goal of the tournament and also the second for England against Germany with a lovely and instinctive header.

There was no comeback for the Germans who were left to rue their missed chance and got dumped out of the competition. England got through to the Quarter Finals.

Thank you for your time.

Sad the Germans couldn't convert the few opportunities they had. You can miss those and not expect to pay dearly. Congratulations to england for breaking the inferiority complex they had against elite teams and advancing to the quarter finals

They really deserve to win the match and i must say Southgate and his boys did well enough to silence their critics by dispatching the German machine and all attention will now be in Rome on Saturday when they played against Ukraine

It was a very good game with both goal opportunities in the first half of the game and neither was scored with clarity to score the first goal of the game, I really did not know who to go for, I did not know who would win this game, I was watching the game live and when I saw that the English scored the first goal I said "nothing, Germany already lost" and well right there they scored the other goal and I saw in Germany their certain defeat, the game was almost over so I did not think about anything else but Germany's defeat.

Absolutely. It was hard to pick who will win but England did just enough and were lucky Muller missed that chance.
