Liverpool hosted Aston Villa in their Premier League encounter hoping not to have a repeat of the mauling they received in the first leg. Liverpool has been hoping to get their form back in the League while breaking into the top four as well and Aston Villa hoped to complete a double over Liverpool.

Tyron Mings almost gave Liverpool the lead when he miskicked and allowed the ball to fall to Salah. Salah's effort missed narrowly after the goalkeeper closed down the angle on him in the 16th minute. Firmino had two lovely chances too but he couldn't beat the goalkeeper. Aston Villa stayed resolute and hit Liverpool on the break but unable to get the endpoint of things.

Alexander Arnold's freekick in the 31st minute skimmed the top of the post. A little inch downwards and that would have been a lovely goal. There were so many chances Liverpool could have taken in this game but they were unable to find the cutting edge with Salah and Firmino the major culprits but you can't fault them either but they just needed that extra bit to beat this resolute Villa defence.

Villa went ahead in the 43rd minute when Watkins initiated the attack. The ball fell to Trezeguet who then found McGuinn. McGuinn got the ball and laid the ball back to Watkins who have it all to do and brilliantly found the back of the net. The ball managed to get under the goalkeeper to give Villa the lead, 1-0.

In the 48th minute, Liverpool thought they have restored parity when Jota was found with a long ball. He managed to find Salah who then laid the pass but the ball managed to find Firmino and he roofed the ball into the back of the net. After a lengthy check from VAR, the goal was ruled off for offside on Jota much to the disappointment of Jurgen Klopp. The half time ended with Villa going 1 goal ahead on the break.

In the 51st minute, Firmino brilliantly turned and found Wijnaldum in the box who then laid it for Salah. Salah's shot was blocked off for a corner kick. Liverpool kept throwing everything at Villa but they stayed resolute.

In the 56th minute, Liverpool got their deserved goal when Robertson was sent through and he played a lovely shot that Martinez parried away. The ball fell to Salah who only had little to do to get the ball into the back of the net. It was a good follow up through for Salah to make it 1-1.

Aston Villa should have been ahead in the 61st minute when Watkins was found close to the box. He drove into the box and laid the ball for Trezeguet. Trezeguet shot with the outside of his foot and the ball clipped the inside of the post. He tried to follow through with a header but he couldn't control it. What a relief that must have been for Liverpool.

In the 91st minute, Thiago found Shaqiri at the edge of the box. Thiago got the return pass and his poke at goal was saved by Martinez. The ball fell to Alexander Arnold who with composure controlled the ball and unleashed a curling effort into the back of the net to break the heart of Aston Villa. Liverpool waited and dug so deep late into the game to win the game. That was Arnold's second goal of the season and it was an important one for Liverpool.

Game over and the game ended 2-1 in favour of Liverpool.
