Captains will 'donate' eight and a half million a month to the club

The Barcelona squad accepted the salary reduction that the club intended. After ten days of negotiations, the players agree to lower 70% of the salary while there is no soccer activity. According to Josep Bartomeu details in various media, this reduction will mean a saving in chips of approximately 32 million euros per month for Barcelona (the president separated from 16 net for the players).

An important amount that left the club that the economic losses are not so great because it is evident that it does not cover the budget set for this year, which amounts to 1,047 million. Those who have carried the weight of the negotiation with the club have been the captains: Messi, Piqué, Busquets and Sergi Roberto. And they will be the ones who carry the bulk of the contribution.

Between the four, 8.6 million euros will stop entering the month, which will remain in the coffers of the club. Messi is the one that contributes the most with an amount that would be over five million and it should not be forgotten that a few days ago his foundation gave another million to two hospitals to fight the coronavirus. Piqué and Busquets would each contribute one and a half million euros, while Sergi Roberto, some 700,000 euros.

There are other players who, despite not being captains, also contribute a considerable number. Luis Suárez is at the same level as Piqué and Busquets, while Antoine Griezmann makes a considerable jump.

The Frenchman will earn this season 18 million euros net at the Barça club, being the highest paid footballer after Messi. 70% of the Frenchman's salary, which is what he will stop receiving now every month, is over 2.1 million.

We will have to see when the club's sports activity recovers. It will be then when the soccer players begin to win the same as until now. The idea that is currently being considered is to start playing games at the end of June, so at the beginning of this month it would be necessary to return to training at the latest. If so, the downtime would be two and a half months, so the amount the club would save would amount to around 90 million euros for the salaries of the first team.
