Manchester United will play Reading/ Luton town in Carabao Cup third-round tie

The 2020/2021 EFL cup campaign will begin this September with Manchester United will playing third-round tie against Reading or Luton Town later this month.

The game will be play without fans at the Madejski Stadium or Kenilworth Road on Monday, 21 September. United were knocked out last season in the semi-finals on 3-2 aggregate by their close rival, Manchester city.

United are yet to know the exact opponent until after the match between Reading and Luton town in second round fixture, which will kick off on Monday 14 September.

United has good record playing against Reading, wining five in their last five previous meeting.

Meanwhile the last time Manchester United played against Luton town was on 18th of April, 1992, with both team settled for 1-1 draw. So United will know the exact opponent after the Reading v Luton town second round show.

However Manchester United has won the competition on five separate occasions, with the last of those coming in 2017, when Manchester United beat Southampton 3-2 in the final, thanks to Jesse Lingard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic goals which were enough to sealed the victory at Wembley.

Meanwhile on the other side Manchester City will play Bournemouth/Crystal palace, Liverpool up against Bradford/Lincoln and Chelsea v Middlesbrough/Barnsley in the third round.
