Areas Manchester united need to strengthen to become real tittle contenders

Hello people, trust you're super good. The Premier league season has began and teams are beginning to show their intent for the season. A statement win from Manchester united has sent a message across to their fellow tittle contenders. Manchester united has been busy this summer transfer window, acquiring the signatures of star players like Jadon Sancho, a young and exciting player and Raphael Varane, a dependable center back with a catalogue of trophies to back him up as a world class player. These players will definitely compliment United's depth and quality. But is that all they need?

Last season was a good one for Manchester united, considering the fact that they finished second place only behind nthe formidable Manchester city, and also got to Europa cup final only to loose out to Villarreal. They also had major wins in the season like the 9-0 triumph against Southampton and the double against their local rivals, Manchester city. The wins showed their strength and what they were capable of at their best but it was the defeats, like that against Tottenham, 6-1 thrashing,that showed their weaknesses which they must improve on to challenge better for the tittle. In my opinion, they had just Four major problems in their squad oke of which was temporarily fixed on the deadline day of last season in the acquisition of Edison Cavani. The areas which needs improvement includes;

The need for a new center back

Last season, Manchester united signed Harry Maguire for a world record fee for a defender, and everyone thought their defensive dilemma was over, well it wasn't. I'm not saying Harry Maguire wasn't good for them, he was a beast when it came to aerial duels and was solid, very solid, he also gave this sort of confidence that spread throughout the back line and he is good with the ball at his feet, but as you may have noticed, he's not the fast type and most opposition took advantage of that and his most preferred defensive partner in person of Victor Lidelof wasn't fast either and was not all that solid. So we basically had two slow defenders pairing most of the time. With the acquisition of Raphael Varane, we have a more competent center back who complements Harry Maguire well. Varane is fast and agile, a good player with the ball at his feet and also good aerially. He also has a lot of experience and has shown nhe has rhe ability to play for a top club like Manchester united as he has shown with his exploits at Real Madrid, where he won so many trophies including the league title and Champions league and also won the world cup with France. Raphael Varane would bring considerable improvement to this United side.

A solitary defensive midfielder

During last season we often saw Ole use the combination of Fred and McTominay(McFred) when he needed defensive solidity and this would often hamper the attacking talent of united as we have two defensive minded midfielders on the pitch. Both players are good but cannot provide the much needed solidity needed when playing alone and this is not a good thing. There are players which i think will play that role more effectively;
  • Declan Rice
  • Kalvin Philips
  • Eduardo Camavinga, a young talent.

Acquiring one of these players will give our more attacking minded midfielders like Pogba and Bruno more freedom as we have seen with Pogba during the world cup and Euros cup where he had Kante doing the dirty work.

A right winger

This has been an issue for years now, Manchester united don't have a natural right winger. This has often led to Ole experimenting with different players like Pogba, Mata, Greenwood etc. I know Daniel James was signed to counter this issue, but he hasn't done Justice to it, at least none that i know of. He was bright at first and then went silent. Jadon Sancho, a new marquee signing will do Justice to this, at least from what we've seen him play in the Bundesliga. He's a dribbler and has the ability to cut in from out wide with an eye for goal, he's also creative as well, and is not easily bullied off the ball. He's also a fast player which is required of him especially in cases of counter attack.

A striker

You may argue that we have some good options in that role but of they were that good, o wouldn't be talking about it. For strikers, we have the likes of Anthony Martial, a good but inconsistent player, Mason Greenwood, a fine finisher who's good with both feet but still too young and inexperienced to take that mantle, and Edinson Cavani, a lethal striker, very good when he was in his prime, he's still good but he's not one we should be considering for the long term. Greenwood could be considered for the long term but he'll need time amd proper mentoring which Cavani can offer a lot. In my opinion, they should go for Eirling Halland. A fine young strikers whose best years are yet to come. He's a well rounded striker, whose got pace, skills, strength, agility and a lethal eye for goal. Get him and get goals. Then there's the recent signing of CR7 a world class attacker. He's good, no doubt but he's not for the long term. I think he'll be amazing in this season and he'll definitely up the level of the team.

Conclusion
Well this is my humble opinion on the areas where Manchester united need to strengthen so as to compete better for the tittle.

Thanks for visiting.

I doubt Manchester United winning the title this season.
With Chelsea form the season and Manchester City, man u are not yet capable of competing with them even with Cristiano Ronaldo
