5th cup for Genk
Yesterday night, the Belgian cup final was played in the "Koning Boudewijnstadion" in Brussels. KRC Genk took on Standard Liège in a sadly empty stadium. The first half was very uninteresting, with nervous play by both teams, but after the interval, both teams played better. With Genk scoring in the 48th minute as a result, a superb finish by Junya Ito. In the 80th minute, Theo Bongonda scored a second goal for Genk. Despite a great header for Standard by Jackson Muleka, Genk could clinch the win with 2-1 on the score board.
Genk is now sure of a Europa League ticket next year. And it also gives Royal Antwerp FC and RSC Anderlecht a European ticket for either Europa League or Conference League.
Congratulations to KRC Genk and its fans!
