All We Ask For Is Consistency

So today I took out some time to watch my other favourite league; the Bundesliga. I like 2 or 3 teams there but I barely watch that league. I do watch it when there is a match between the big boys.

So today was Leipzig Vs Bayern Munchen and I didn’t wanna miss it. The reason why I watched it was because of the new Munich goalkeeper Sommer who signed from Gladbach just a few days ago. He has only one training session with them and was quickly put in the starting XI against Leipzig. He replaced Nuer cause he has a broken leg and will be out for a while.

I was watching to see how good sommer is but then something else caught my attention. Just like last week a similar thing happened in the Bundesliga. There was a goal which was disallowed by the VAR for an offside which got me confused. How can there be a totally different interpretation in a different league?

We all saw the Marcus Rashford controversy against City in the derby last weekend. Rashford was played through by a United player, he was standing in an offside position hence he decided not to play it, the weird part about this was that he followed the ball to the edge of the box until Bruno asked him to leave it. When Bruno scored I was sure the goal was going to get ruled out but I was wrong.

A similar situation happened but just that the player didn’t go after the ball. In the build-up to a goal scored by Goredska, Delight was offset. But he didn’t even contest for the ball. The ball was played in his direction but he didn’t even jump for it.

A few Leipzig played jumped for it but they missed it which allowed it to land on the foot of a Bayern player to calmly cross it for a header. The moment they scored the linesman raised his flag for offside.

VAR took some time to look at it and concluded that Delight was offside so the goal shouldn’t count. Now how do you chop off that goal and allow the United one to stand? Well, I don’t care if the decision for United's goal was right or wrong but all I want is consistency.

Even if the United one was a wrong call and people have explained that it’s right then it should be the new normal. Let the VAR be consistent enough so that we know when it’s that way then you are screwed.

I agree with you on this one. We really need it to be consistent. So that we can enjoy the game in a fare way.

That’s all we want😂. I wouldn’t mind if a wrong decision is held up and always used in all the situations.

Great piece. These technologies have been good but not at the expense of the games beauty. Thanks for sharing.

The VAR and its inconsistency in football, that goal given to United was a good call form the VAR and officials because that same goal was given to Arsenal back then even before VAR came. The truth is the so-called VAR is being controlled by human and as human begins, we are bound to make errors, but still, it's confusing how that goal was not given in the Bundesliga or those the Bundesliga have its own rules with VAR.
