Both NBA number 1 seeds lose first playoff game

There is a reason why the number 1 seed gets a preferential setup in the playoff brackets. They are seen as deserving of having an easier path to the eventual finals by virtue of the fact of having earned it on their way through the regular season. There are 16 teams in the finals and the number 1 seed plays the guys that barely made the playoffs, 2nd plays 7th, 3rd, plays 6th, and 4th plays 5th. Normally the top of both brackets is a bit of a foregone conclusion and it is very rare that one side of the bracket would lose game one, but both of them? That is practically unheard of.

So in game one the Lakers' performance was probably publicized the most but that is just because they are the Lakers and Bron Bron plays for them. They lost, sure; but they also lost once to Portland in the regular season back in January 127-119. The Bucks are the more embarrassing loss in this situation as they have all but dominated the Magic 4 times already in the regular season winning one of those games by 32 points.

I don't know what happened the other night, but Orlando cruised to a 12 point victory in a game that saw Milwaukee looking like a different team than had been on the court the rest of the season.

The team that most bookmakers have as a strong favorite to win the entire dance failed in every category from rebounds to steals to even free-throw percentage. They basically did not look like that is just a few games shy of having nearly twice as many wins as Orlando.

The Lakers on the other hand wasn't as massive of a surprise to lose to their opponents because like I said, they already did so once this season, even though it was more than 6 months ago. LeBron James' triple-double of 23 points, 17 rebounds and 16 assists wasn't enough to push his team through to a "V" as they struggled on defense and at points appeared to have issues not arguing with one another on the court.

The rest of the games in round one panned out exactly as planned with only 1 exception as the Heat won over the Pacers but in a 4 vs 5 matchup this can hardly be called an upset.

There is no real home advantage since everyone is playing away from their actual homes except for maybe Orlando, who is playing in Orlando but not on their home grounds. It will be interesting to see how game 2 pans out because there is always the opportunity that coaches were keeping their strategies moderate in game one because they don't see the 8 seed as a realistic threat.

This is another year of history because both number 1 seeds losing game one has only ever happened one other time in NBA history. It wasn't that long ago though as it happened in 2003 when the Pistons and Spurs were beaten by the Magic and Suns, respectively.

I do love a good Cinderella story. I don't mean to be a bit mean but I kinda like LeBron getting stomped on since he is such a loudmouth in the press about political issues.
