Figueiredo wants a 2nd BMF belt: I say shut up man!

There is not denying the talent in Deiveson Figueiredo and even though I mock the "little guys" for putting on boring fights he has proven me wrong 2 months in a row where he had two incredible fights that may have earned him "fight of the night" bonuses. He was absolutely outstanding in both as well as dominant.

His first fight in November yours truly predicted a snooze-fest that would result in almost all of the undercards being more entertaining. Well, DF proved me wrong in the very first round. It is also worth noting that 1 of the 2 undercard fights turned out to be real sleepers and if there had been a crowd on hand I believe they would have been booing for them. I almost missed all the action as I was at a bar and went to the bathroom while the introductions were happening because I fully expected the usual flyweight dancing contest where neither guy has enough power to really do any real damage to the other as was the case with a majority of Demetrius Johnson's fights.

I was very wrong about this because it was a slugfest from the start and it even looked like Perez was actually in position to submit DF (I'm abbreviating because the correct spelling is impossible for me to remember) but then the champ showed us what true Jiu Jitsu is all about when he calmly reversed it for a very tight and inescapable choke.

A mere 3 weeks later, DF would face his true challenger Brandon Moreno, and even though this went the full 5 rounds it was extremely clear who the better fighter was and all 3 judges, anyone that watched the fight, and even Brandon Moreno, was very aware of whose arm would be going up in the end.

It isn't unusual for people to start chasing more money after a series of victories and Figueiredo is quite similar to anyone else in that endeavor. I just wish that he hadn't even mentioned the belt that most fans already have tried to forget ever existed: The stupid Baddest Motherfucker (BMF) belt.

The first time this belt was up for grabs it was between two guys that were not then, and still aren't champions in their own divisions - they both were just really good at trash talking and somehow managed to get their own special belt fight arranged just for them.

The fight was a disaster, and Masvidal didn't even win the fight, as Nate Diaz was determined by a doctor to be medically unfit to continue. When Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson had to hand over the belt at the end, you could tell that even the didn't want to be there and as the crowd booed the result, I would imagine that he made a hasty retreat.

Since that ill-fated day, the UFC has barely recognized the existence of this belt and Dana White skirts questions about it as I feel that even he realizes that the belt and the exhibition altogether was a poorly contrived money-grab on the part of UFC. They could have just had the fight between the two guys with a huge purse and not had the completely absurd belt-that-would-never-be-recognized by any commission anywhere outside of Japan anywa. But as UFC slips further and further into WWE type antics they had to do a tie-in with a Johnson film and turn it into a massive event that totally fell flat in the eyes of most fans.

My question was how can either of these guys be the "baddest" of them all when they aren't even the "baddest" in their respective divisions? Masvidal is ranked 4th in Welterweight and Nate Diaz is either ranked 7th or not at all in the lightweight division - depending on who you ask. He has been scrubbed from UFC's official rankings and this probably has a lot to do with the fact that Dana White really doesn't like the Diaz brothers.

So the fact that this BMF belt, the only one that does and ever should exist, would be brought up by the flyweight champion, is completely absurd and hopefully a notion that gets squashed straight away. If the UFC wants to have a champ of one division fight for the title in another division, there is only about 5 lbs separating the two and if they want to do that, then do that. Or if it is about trash-talking then do a catchweight fight for a huge purse. But for the love of everything holy do not bring another stupid made up belt into the picture.
