Jake Paul and Ben Askren fight during press conference

So the hype train continues and it is getting to the point where I think that this is all a setup and both of these guys are in on it for the sake of making money. It wouldn't be the first time this has happened if it ends up being the case.

This was always going to get heated and a big part of this is the fact that this is precisely what Jake Paul does. He creates hype by intentionally being as rude as possible to people and this is why the Pay per Views end up selling. It is a little bit silly that they would actually get into a fight during a press conference though especially when the attempted throws were mostly body blows - which is why I think that it very well could have been staged and planned.

Askren didn't strike him back after Jake threw what looked like a very weak body shot. Askren would later say in another interview that he "hopes that isn't the best he can do" and called the shot "extremely weak."

The press conference itself is a bit difficult to watch mostly because Paul trying to be a bully the entire time. Askren does bring up some good points during the presser and appears to be more calm about the entire thing whereas Jake is just trying to get under his opponent's skin the entire time. At one point Jake facetimed in Jorge Masvidal, who is the person who ended Askren's UFC career by knocking him out in a record-setting 5 seconds.

Askren didn't even react to the punch and even though Paul was goading him to get back over there, he kept on walking. It was pretty embarrassing but it had its intended effect of getting this back in the news cycle - which is what I think the intention was from the start.

Now, here is something interesting to ponder. Askren has been involved in fighting for a while, but he is not a boxer, he never has been. I think one could correctly argue that he was one of the weakest strikers in UFC history and hence, the reason for his very short time there. Then again, Jake Paul is yet to face anyone with any real history in fighting sports at all. There is a very real chance that Askren could lose this fight but I hope he doesn't. I think that most people want to see Paul get the crap whipped out of him. I'm one of them. I will be watching this fight and hope that it can be interesting. No matter what happens at this thing, one of these two is going to have a massive slice of humble pie once it is over.

And that awkward moment when he is on the phone with Masvidal... That was really weird...

Ben needs to be careful though, these young bucks don't give a fuck. I know he has an experience at a different level, but a fight is a fight, even with pillowcases on.

People will tune in to see if he can shut the boy up. Welcome to 2021

We'll find a way to steal the stream. I'll be damned if I am going to be one of the people that is going to shell out 50 bucks for this clownshow.

Masvidal being involved at all is a dirty tactic for sure and Askren tried to rebut by saying that no one would know who Jake was if it weren't for Logan. Masvidal is almost certainly doing this for self-serving reasons because UFC has shown time and time again that the more controversy you have surrounding you, the better fights and better paydays you are going to receive.

Stuff is getting nasty. I don' think that Jake's chin has ever really been tested. I don't know if Askren is the guy that is going to make that happen either though.
