Cavani opened Uruguay's advantage when the game had only been running for five minutes, completing a bait by Nahitan Nandez with a right-footed shot that was unstoppable by goalkeeper David Ospina. Colombia tried to retaliate but James Rodriguez's two shots and one Duvan Zapata chance still missed the mark so Uruguay's lead held on until halftime.

Four minutes after the second half of action, Zapata almost equalized, but his close range shot was countered by goalkeeper Martin Campana.

Uruguay actually managed to double the lead in the 54th minute through Suarez's penalty after Jeison Murillo fouled Rodrigo Bentancur in the area.

Colombia's hard work never paid off. Instead, Uruguay widened the lead to 3-0 through Darwin Nunez's long-range goal in the 73rd minute.

Colombia struggled to penetrate the heart of Uruguay's defense and began to rely on speculative shots from Luis Diaz and Jefferson Lerma, but until the end there wasn't even a consolation goal for the hosts.

The result made Uruguay temporarily climbed to fourth in the standings with a collection of six points, leaping over Colombia with four points that were left out to sixth.

In the fourth match on Tuesday (17/11) local time (Wednesday WIB), Uruguay will host Brazil, while Colombia travel to Ecuador. The top four teams in the standings will win tickets to the 2022 World Cup finals, while the fifth will have an inter-regional play-off match.
