RE: To Olympic or not to Olympic

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

We quite like the Olympics in our house. You end up watching sports you would rarely see otherwise and there are amazing athletes who are not earning the money that those in the big sports do. I get that the event itself is largely about money, but the Japanese organisers will probably not make much due to the lack of paying spectators. They were desperate for it to go ahead due to the TV rights. In the UK we have less feeds as it seems Discovery have put restrictions on what the BBC can show. Last time I think we could choose from at least 4 feeds, but this time it is just 2. A lot of the events are on in the middle of the night anyway.

Any sport gets spoiled by people cheating. Russia has been punished for that over several years, but I would hope other cheats get found out too.

They should try to optimise conditions for the competitors and not just for US TV by having them in the morning or evening. The next soccer World Cup is in Qatar and conditions there could be tough for players.

I can agree with that. I found myself watching Badminton the other day and I was absolutely enthralled. I think a lot of the events are taking place during the night for us too. They just show the coverage about a day behind. I also agree with you on Qatar. I wrote a post a while ago about how many of the migrant workers have died because of the conditions and heat over there as they build the facilities for the cup.
