I am so happy that Belgium won against Portugal!

Among the Round of 16 matches in the European Championship in football, the match between Portugal and Belgium yesterday was the one I was looking forward to the most. I know, many people have been writing about the match between Germany and England, and that will for sure be an awesome match, but somehow, I was more intrigued by the match between Belgium and Portugal.

But, I am not hiding the fact that I am very happy about the fact that Belgium won. Do you know why?

Why I am happy that Belgium won against Portugal!

There are several reasons why I am happy about the fact that Belgium won. I really thought that Portugal would do great in the championship, and I like their football, but still - I was cheering for Belgium yesterday... this is why!

• Portugal won Euro 2016 without impressing. In fact, they only won 1 single match during normal match time.
• They had a way better squad this year, but they haven't been impressing at all. They barely won against Hungary (scored their first goal in the 84th minute), then they lost against Germany, and barely made it against France.
• The team has potential, but they haven't managed to bring that potential to life. They have stars, but to be honest, have you heard a single word about Bruno Fernandes during Euro 2020? I haven't, even though I thought he would be one of the big profiles of the tournament.

So, after watching the first three matches of Portugal, I feared that they would once again just "barely make it" throughout the tournament, all the way until the final. That would be a tragedy, considering that Belgium is a way better team, playing way better and cooler football. So, for the sake of the tournament, I am really happy that Belgium won the match yesterday against Portugal.
