Suzuki Carry Tenth Generation (2000)

Hey there! Check this out

You heard of tiny homes?

And van life?

Probably, right

#tinyvanlife

In a couple of hours, the lass and I are going to sus this mini beast out

It's a Suzuki Carry

Built in the year 2000

Pretty straight and tidy on the outside by the look

Interior's not bad for the age and easy to improve

Mechanically there's issues

Current owner writes: "Not running been told its the head gasket nothing else wrong"

Asking $1200 negotiable

Depending on the condition of the motor I reckon it's worth $500-$800

The big risk is how long it's been sitting there with coolant/water inside the bores, potentially

If that's rusted the pistons and everything, then it would need a full engine swap

But it could just be the head. If so, could get it machined, or just buy a brand new one. Suzuki and others are still making 'em

Looks like we could get it back on the road for under $500 if I did the work myself

The current owner doesn't give much info, but my research finds this model came out with K6A and F6A 650cc 3-cylinder engines

Suzuki have been manufacturing this line of vehicles since 1961 with only minor changes to the body shape and form factor

So it's possible I could find a motor from a later model and it would fit

Need to do more research though

Actually that's why I'm posting this here

Anyone owned or worked on one of these before?

The other potential issue is the gearbox

A mate of mine had one of these about 15 years ago, but it was the ute version (or pickup truck)

It was imported into Australia from Japan by the previous owner

Designed as a small runabout to ferry materials and products between factories in Tokyo, the gearing limited the motor to a top speed of 60km/hour

It just didn't need to go any quicker; never saw highway use

But that would be a problem for me down under. This country's huge

I don't think it will turn out to be the case though...

Any decent person would put this info in the ad

And well yeah, going for a look in a bit

What do you think?

My brother has a Volkswagon van set up to live/camp in, but I think he paid around $15K.
Is there enough headroom there?

Nah, too small to stand up in

Plenty of room for a swag in the back though 😎
