Morning run - Skip between the raindrops

I had a comment that us Brits should be used to bad weather, but what we actually get is variable weather. It does not get too extreme here, although we had some really heavy rain at the weekend. When I got up today it looked like there had been some light rain. I felt a few drops as I went out. It was quite cool, but I stuck with t-shirt and shorts.

Run

I opted to avoid anywhere that might be muddy and stuck to the hard surfaces. I set my Garmin watch for my 30-20-10 intervals routine. This is three times five sets of that. The warm-up phase gives me just enough time to get to the Pendleton Way cycle path. This is fairly flat apart from the underpass under the bypass. It was apt that I was running on a route named after a local Olympic cycling gold medallist as I listened to Chris Boardman on Desert Island Discs.

I seemed to miss a couple of prompts to change pace, but I did most of them and got some good speed on the fastest parts. It would be interesting to see if I can actually run much faster even if it is just for a few seconds. Technique must be a big part of that.

Laps

The rain did come down a bit harder whilst I was out, but was not bad enough to worry me apart from collecting on my glasses. It was fairly quiet out as the schoolkids are off this week.

I do wonder if I should push a bit harder on this workout, but I am happy to get distinct differences in pace. I felt I had done a good workout. I did the last path on the path around the back of the houses. There is a bit of a climb there that lets me know my legs are tiring.

I will probably do some longer intervals on my next run. I should think about doing another 5km test as it has been a while since the last one.

Run free and stay well.

The way you talk, you folks get some pretty moderate weather compared to what I get over here. Great job on your run. Sorry that the rain had to make it a bit miserable. Just be happy you didn't get 8 inches of snow like they did about five hours away from where I live in the Northern part of our state. crazy stuff!

If we get any snow it's a major event and causes chaos. Some winters we get none. A bit of rain like today does not really bother me and I was not even that wet when I got back. It's just a tradition to complain about our weather :)

I was just coming back from a mile trip around the park with Charlie soaking wet at that time.

A good workout, congrats.

Posture comes with the mileage. Or so they say :)

OK, I am glad that my weather-related remark struck a chord. It's linguistics after all :) It's not bad, it's changeable. Good choice of words :)

The other day I had a 5 km run that was right on pace with your pace in this one. I know you are faster than me but I use your times as a bit of a milestone and while I am certain that you could beat me if you wanted to, i was happy to be in "your range" at least for once.

Well done! I am not the quickest, but I am happy that I can do better than most guys my age and can beat a lot of younger people when I do events. I think I have potential to go faster if I can ways to train that are viable for me.
