Morning run - Soggy

avatar

It was another wet one today, but not pouring down. We had a brief storm yesterday that started with some lightning and had some hail. I would not want to be out in that.

Times

You may notice this is a little quicker than some of my runs. I was going to do long intervals, but given the conditions I opted for 'fartlek' (fast play - improvised intervals).

Route

I was running on the cycle path to Stotfold again. There are various trees and other things to use as targets for the sprints. That can get busy when the schools are open, but they are off this week.

Pace

You can see that my pace varied a lot. I try to stay under 6min/km most of the time and speed up to around 4:40 on the sprints. That is about as quick as I go.

Heart

Strava thinks my heart is working hard. That ought to be good for me. I recover quickly and my resting heart rate is fairly low.

I was reading that people of my age are losing some of their 'get up and go'. That may be the case with me, but I am trying to stay active and keep trying new things. I hope to have a few decades of quality life ahead of me, but my running is likely peak at some point.

Run free and stay well.

Oh wow, yeah, that is definitely not the kind of weather I would want to be exercising in! I pushed myself yesterday and I was able to do a full three mile workout. I was pretty happy about that. It wiped me out for the better part of the morning, but it was good to try it. My biggest issue lately is the time constraints of working out in the morning. I already get up at 4AM, I'd hate to have to get up earlier than that.

4am is just crazy to me. I can get up when I want, but am trying to be up by 8am. At least it's light then. When I get back to work I'll have to look at the options.

Trust me, it is crazy. We like to be in to work before the students start to arrive and we live about a half hour away so that gets us here around 6:30. Any later and I have a feeling we would feel too rushed. Especially for my wife, that prep hour in the morning is about the only time she gets to sit still all day.

Congrats! A great short workout!

About your age - you are not even halfway there. It's much too early to start lamenting the old age :)
