Blast from the past - 1989 Rallye Monte Carlo

Hi, friends!

Today we are going back in the days when Lancia used to rule the world of rallying. It is only the 3rd season from when Group A was introduced after group B was banned after some fatal accidents.

Those were the days when Italian driver Miki Biasion won two WRC crowns in the row, in 1988 and 1989 and everything because of Lancia. They invested so much money into the development of that Delta HF integrale so with the right attitude, success was there for sure.

That season 1989 was the first season with Didier Auriol behind a wheel of Lancia and he showed the whole world how good he was.

The rest you can see in this video. Just sit and enjoy...

It's always a fun experience to re-watch these good old days, the golden age of Rallying. Too bad I wasn't born then, and I felt like the sport gradually got worse as I grew up. In any case, nice to see some Lancias tearing up Monte Carlo. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one day Lancia will be reborn, and we can enjoy this very same sight again!

Yeah, it's a slim chance... which is sad 😭. I'm just hoping that we'll come to a time in the future when sports cars become popular again, at least more so than SUVs, and then maybe Fiat-Chrysler could bring back Lancia. Or - and this might sound like blasphemy - but a compact, sporty Lancia SUV/Crossover thing that'll appeal to enthusiastic driving? Hmm...
