Blast from the past - Super 2000 rally cars

Hi, friends!

Why do I like atmospheric engines more then turbo?! I just don't know. I would lie to say that sound isn't better because when you hear screaming revs up to 9000rpm,it's just better then bangs from antilag of turbo engines.

For those who don't know what is anti-lag, it's the system that keeps turbo working all the time without having turbo hole. If you have ever drove turbo engine cars, you know that when you loose revs, that you have turbo hole until the engine again brings enough torque for the maximum momentum.

With atmospheric engines you just have to keep the engine revving high and that's all. Precise driving is needed and with driving more from the inside into the corners because it's easier that way.

With turbo engines you can enter into the corners from the outside also because there is a torque on the lower revs of the engine and this will keep you on the road.

So, first there were Super 1600 cars with 1.6 atmospheric engines which were relevant mostly in the early 2000's and that cars were always used for the Junior WRC championship.

I remember very good when Colin McRae tested first Super 2000 cars called Fiat Grande Punto S2000. That was something great. I was hoping that Super 2000 would replace WRC cars but that story never came true.

I think that in 2006 or 2007 I had my first web page called 8000rpm.com which was all about S2000 cars. I was writing and my brother was uploading content. He didn't have enough time so we cancelled the server after only one year. But that was my first blog.

Every brand had its time but Škoda, Fiat and Peugeot were the most successful. Proton was kinda optimistic and they invested a lot into the driver but they lacked the results. It's just about involvement of the factory into the program because when private outfit develops the rally car by itself, it can't be good enough as when factory squad develops it.

So, watch the screaming engines from the past and enjoy in something which was later replaced with R5 class with turbo engines.
