Tanak tested new Hyundai 2022 hybrid WRC car

Hi, friends!

It seems that Hyundai World Rally Team started to test heavily their newest development rally car which should be introduced in 2022 with the new regulations out called hybrid WRC system.

Newly built but still not homologated rally cars will have around 500bhp but not all the time. Power will be there on some of the sectors but it is still unknown how long the cars will have it.

That battery will bring around 10o0kg more to the rally carsand also there won't be that much aero stuff on the cars, just to limit the price of the cars.

Current version of the WRC car costs around 750 000€ and maybe that is the reason why we don't see that much privateers as it used to be in the old days.

It is not only the price of the car. You need to invest around the same price into the repair parts if you want to run that car.

It was kinda funny to see the Ford Fiesta WRC of private team JanPro Racing driven by Esapekka Lappi in Finland which broke down very early into the rally because of the blown turbo.

You must have serious list of spare parts for that cars if you want to keep them running on the road.

Now FIA said that the new version of the WRC 2022 car shouldn't cost more then 500 000€. That is the fair price but how many privateers could buy that expensive rally car?! Not much I guess.

They should put R5 cars as a leading class and the entry lists would be full of entrants. But the works teams will never allow the small teams to beat them on the special stages. That's why they want ot control the whole game.

Hyundai stare+ed their development phase heavily and the first to test in Finland was 2019 WRC champion Ott Tanak.

Watch him in action with the newest hybrid rally technology...
