Ready, Set, Write

This is our new contest for this week,.

This is a 'creative writing contest' called Ready, Set, Write. What does this mean? This means that you will be given 6 sentences and you have to pick 1 sentence to start off your story. We wanted to see how people's minds and different perspective comes into play on this. How each author expanded from just the sentence.

PS : This contest is created only for the members of #powerhousecreatives.

Criteria :

1. Pick ONE sentence only to start off.

2. You can also END with the sentence.

3. Post must not be less than 350 words.

4. You may use photos/pictures/drawings for better illustration.

The subway suddenly stopped inside the tunnel, The prevailing darkness and the lack of information from the operators generated a wave of murmurs. The sound was very similar to that produced by a swarm of boiling bees, a tense calm that would cut through the darkness with its sharp edge if not for the panic of an external detonation.

I was 17 when I fell in love with Tom, on holiday in Italy with my parents. We had two wonderful weeks when we finally said goodbye because he left to go back to Belgium. But offcourse with the promise to see eachother soon after the holiday. We wrote eachother and talked about where we would meet because we didn’t have our driverslicence yet. The best option was in the middle between Belgium and the Netherlands and that was Utrecht Central Station. So we both caught the train and were glad about the option to meet again and see if our feelings still were the same as under the Italian sun...

The cemetery was rather quiet on my annual visit. I don't come here often enough as you can tell. Once a year is just not enough. I could make every excuse under the sun like I've been working too many hours, I am exhausted by the time I get home or the weekends are spent doing various errands and chores... but those aren't justified.

Does not coming here more frequent make me a bad person? That question pops into my head whenever I feel maudlin.

When I arrived at the train station, he was already gone; my mind went blank and I felt that my breathing had stopped. It was as if my world had come to a standstill in an instant. The silence of the desolate station stunned me and an intense cold suddenly enveloped me; I don't know how much time passed from that moment, I just know that when I reacted I felt the immense need to take a drink.

The cemetery was rather quiet on my annual visit. Knees hurting something fierce from sitting in one position during the long ride, I quickly made my way to the opposite side of the cemetery. The grounds were recently manicured I notice. Good. I could smell the fresh cut of grass. Our funds well spent. We have to keep our ancestors' home as spotless as possible. It's difficult. The elements work against us.

Sandra and Melissa were resting quietly in the park under a lush tree. It was common for them to do this after jogging for half an hour. They were a bit overweight. Evergreen Park was in a coastal town. The fresh breeze filled their lungs with healthy air, pure air.

Suddenly, the girls were frozen, static, with no action to move; watching the townspeople running desperately. Everyone stepped aside. Shouting: run, run! They were dazed, they didn't know why, but they joined the commotion.

We were walking through a forest with many giant trees, along a path that leads to a stream, crystal clear water and green everywhere, what a beautiful landscape, what an invitation to stay in that place to live, we decided to make a campfire and camp there, we were gathered around the fire talking and telling jokes, and anecdotes. A light rain started to fall and we went to sleep in our tents.

I awoke this morning, sweat pouring down my brow but I felt refreshed. The night before I had done a breathing exercise when I first got into bed and afterwards went into a deep sleep, not waking until 6:30 A.M.

Upon awakening I remembered I had dreamt all night of walking and talking with a handsome doctor. He was no one I recognized but I enjoyed his company. We walked leisurely for miles until it was coming on dusk. Our conversation was not about health issues but we talked of life in general. No wonder I was sweating when I awoke.

One of the biggest secrets of my life was going to be revealed.

The revelation would serve to anger some, scare others, and when all was said and done, I’d be left with a reputation that I wouldn’t seem to deserve having. That which was most annoying to the press was the condescension the court had dumped on me in its ruling that certain points in my testimony weren’t plausible.

It did seem to matter to the press that I was the expert witness, after I had testified conclusively that a Provocative Act had taken place.
