How I would run a World Cup betting game today (Web3 vs Web2)
World Cup starting soon
I ran a World Cup betting game back in the Steemit days that got way bigger than I expected.
We had real engagement, a meaningful prize pool, people actually coming back daily to check results, place predictions, and compete. It wasn’t just “content”, it was a living thing.
Looking back now, it worked for a very simple reason:
People felt involved
Not because of perfect tech. Not because of tokenomics. Because it was fun, competitive, and had something at stake. Fast forward to today: Funny enough, I’m getting a bit of that feeling again right now.
I recently started using https://sportsblock.app as kind of my new home for sports content and predictions… and for whatever reason, I’m currently on a pretty decent streak.
Not even just football. I’m picking up new sports again, trusting instincts a bit more, not overthinking everything. Sometimes that’s when predictions actually work best.
A thought based on experience
Seeing what the team around @sportsblock is building (including contests like the World Cup format), I honestly think they’re on the right track. From my experience running similar formats before, a few things always made the difference:
- keeping entry friction low
- creating daily engagement (not just big events)
- making people feel part of something, not just users
That’s where these things either take off… or slowly fade.
Having been through this myself — building contests, managing engagement, dealing with what works and what doesn’t — I’d actually be more than happy to support the team if that experience is useful at any point.

Like you said it's not about the prizes, it's about taking part and competing against the other users.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone
I've been labelled a lot of things on Hive 😂 by the biggest farmers scammers and downvoters
Actions speak louder than any words do especially when them words are coming from a compolsive liars
