Strength vs Technique For Self Defense

Some people say strength does not matter. On the other hand, some people say strength is everything in a fight for self defense.

So do you need strength for self defense or is it all about techniques?

The thing is if you face someone who is bigger and stronger than you, you will find it difficult to defend yourself. If his punch lands on your face, it will be decorated without makeup. ;)

To defend yourself, sometimes you have to strike. If you do not have power on your strike, it will have almost zero impact on the attacker. The attacker can use his strength to put you in a vulnerable position.

When you go to learn martial arts, martial arts instructor teaches you some basic exercises first. And you have to spend time doing those exercises regularly. You might be wondering, you wanted to learn how to strike and defend yourself, but you end up doing exercises.

To learn martial arts, you have to be ready for you. You are not prepared yet, that's why your instructor teaches you exercises first, then you will start getting different lessons in martial arts. When you fight for self defense, strength matters.

To defend yourself, strength is not everything. You have to learn the techniques. You have strength, but if you do not know how to use your strength in a certain way, you cannot defend against attack.

If someone grabs your hands, you pull it hard, it is not going to help you to get rid of the wrist grab. You can use the techniques to move your hand in a particular direction and you will see that the attacker cannot hold you anymore.

When it comes to self defense, you have to have the strength of both physical and mental. Use your power and speed in your strike. In order to defend against the attacker's moves, you need to use the techniques and strength to deal with that.
