Two new coordinators in Tennessee

There's been two new major coaching hires for the Titans so far this off-season. Which is interesting enough by itself. But even slightly more interesting is the fact the Titans didn't actually have a defensive coordinator this past season. Head Coach Mike Vrabel didn't actually assign that coaching position. It appears that role was between himself and outside linebackers coach Shane Bowen. Many play calls throughout the year were from Bowen.

Disappointingly, HC Mike Vrabel and the Titans actually promoted outside linebackers coach Shane Bowen to become the new defensive coordinator in 2021. It's surprisingly awful because like I said Bowen was a big part of the defensive play calls last season and the defense was mostly awful in 2020.

I, along with many Titans fans, am not happy with this coaching hire. Let's just hope that there is more to Shane Bowen that meets the eye. Hopefully coach Vrabel knows something we fans, don't.

On the offensive side of the ball the Titans hired former the team's tight ends coach from last year, Todd Downing. Downing has a nice long history of being an assistant coach in the league and was even an offensive coordinator a few seasons ago with the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders were an average team on offense the year he coordinated. This hire seems a bit better from my point of view.

So the team stayed in-house in 2021 with their coordinator positions. I definitely can respect that, but respect doesn't always yield results. As a fan that's what I want. The Titans fanbase will all be watching how new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen performs. I think we are all nervous about the results there.

Overall I have mixed feelings about this hire. Hoping for the best, #Titanup
